X900 e microfono Shure WH20 QTR or the AKG HSC 171

Hi friends, do you know if it is possible to use this microphone model Shure WH20 QTR (price 118 € = 140 $)
I tried with some generic microphone headphones but the microphone didn't work ...
I wanted something small with no need of the microphone stand (my wife says it clashes with the decor of the house)

Does it work? OH yes, it works perfect great.

I have been using that same head mic since 2004. You will need to purchase an additional 3 foot extension cord.

Hi Pietro,

the Shure WH20 QTR has a 6.3 mm TS plug, so actually the right plug to connect to the unbalanced MIC Input of the SX900.

BUT: It is not possible to professionally extend the cable of this microphone: A 6.3 mm cable socket of a corresponding extension cable can very easily cause noises or crackling. In addition, the WH20 QTR can only be operated unbalanced, which is a major disadvantage if the mic is connected to a standard XLR microphone input (e.g. external Mixer or keyboard XLR Mic Input) should be connected and / or if a relatively long cable should be used).

That's why I recommend buying the WH20 XLR. To connect it to the SX900, you additonally need an unbalanced extension cable (preferably as short as possible) "XLR female connector to 6.3 mm TS plug":

Sorry guys I changed the title of the post because I noticed that between headphones and extension cable the cost is 150 euros with the limitation mentioned by Chris and Drake. At around 215 euros I found these AKG HSC 171 headphones and condenser microphone (need xlr to jack adapter cable not included). Would this more expensive microphone solution work? Does a condenser microphone need power?

Yes, a condenser mic needs phantom power. Only Genos has that.

I need buy the excellent Shure WH20 with xlr connection and a 3-foot extension with female XLR and jack...

Hi Pietro,

please make sure to buy an unbalanced extension cable (XLR female to TS "mono" plug, as shown in my picture above). The internal wiring of the cable must be:

XLR pin 2  - - ->  TS plug Tip
XLR pins 1 & 3 bridged  - - - >  TS plug Sleeve


A balanced cable (XLR female to TRS "stereo" plug) would NOT work in this case.
