Yes i'm in the market for a good external sound system for my desk top computer . I want to use it for karaoke . I have a pair of Bose II multimedia  speakers which sound ok but I would like to get something better perhaps with a sub woofer attached . What do you guys recommend ?

For your computer (and also for your keyboard) I can recommand this: Logitech Z623 SPEAKERSYSTEM.
It has a very good sound and a subwoofer and is very affordible.
Read the reviews on internet.
I hope this will help to make a decision.

Seconded !!!  Cheap price and THX certificate ...very powerful, compact and sound great both with my board or PC.

Depends how much output you need - but for just home use - Would also consider the smaller Z333's I have these on my office PC . they have a nice little subwoofer and were only around £40 UK. price

What about the  Companion 20 multimedia Speaker System by Bose how do they compare ?

Greg,

The Logitech was designed for gamers, and it sounds fantastic, and at a much lower price.

What's the Longevity on the Logitech Z623  . How long have you all been using this System ?

Never had an issue with any of the Logi sets I have owned, had the 623's about 4 years now and the other Z9's and Z3's longer

I suppose for the low cost, even if you got 5 years plus, they would be value for money and a friend has had an early set from the Z5's series for well over 10 years.

Like all mainstream, tried and tested kit, used with respect, it 'should' last.

I been looking at the Logitech Z625  How does  that compare to the Logitech  Z623 speaker system and noticeable difference ?   And also I do  have a pair of Bose  computer speakers  but they lack the bass so that why I'm thinking of buying the Logitech system now. I think the sub would make a difference. Only trouble I have ran into with computer speakers is I use Karaoke and sing through the mic at my desk top and I run into a lot of feed back and I think its due to the fact that the music coming out of the speakers in front of me are bouncing off the mic and then the feed back. I don't know if I should build a shelf about my computer monitor and raise the speakers up weather or not that would help with the mic feed back . What are your thoughts on this ? Thank You !

Better bottom end with the Logitech, but it lacks some of the mid range that the Bose provides.

623 and 625 are identical. 625 just has optical connection which you would not use anyway on an arranger

Your feedback issue would be the same with any speakers i imagine, it depends on position.

I got some more information on the difference of the 623 and 625  I think the power rating on the 625 is 200 watts  and the 623 is 60 watts  . There is  a $50.00 difference in price.  Gary you say the Bose has better mid range interesting. They do make Bose that hook up to the computer which I have  but I think they don't make a sub woofer that can hook up to these companion 2 series

Here is a Bose system but they stop making it but there could be some used ones floating around on line . How would this system work  with both mids and lows ?

I have and use a Logitech system as well, which has a sub woofer. I got it at America's favorite store "Walmart" years ago.

i think you will find the 623 is in fact the same as the 625 BOTH ....200W ( 400 peak )

see -

Ps ....Another brand with a really good THX certified model in the same ball park is 'Edifier'- I have owned a set of theirs before ( not this model ) but this one looks cool

Blackpool  those Edifier look impressive..  Do you think they have an edge over the Logitech?   I don't see those listed under the USA  web sight ?  Here is another thought .As of now I have mixer hooked up to my desktop. Could I use a  stereo receiver along with my mixer and run conventional  house speakers and sub.

I been looking at the market place on face book and they got a lot of used stereo equipment very cheap.

What is the difference if I run my computer audio  through a  house stereo or  use a computer audio like those you all are suggesting.?   Is there any difference in sound between the two set ups ?

Genos!

Well, I kind of feel like I should say something.

I have two Mackie high resolution HR624 studio monitors both THX pm3 and for mains I have two Mackie 2000W each SRM215 V-Class speakers with Bluetooth and built-in mixers.

So, the studio monitors are for music production (mixing/mastering) and the 2000W speakers are for stage use for concerts, etc. The stage speakers also have built-in voicing and location (inside/outside) and can be 100% controlled with Bluetooth and an Android or iPhone.

If anyone wants more information on the SRM V-Class series of Mackie speakers I guess I would be someone to ask questions to. Talk at-ya later.

Sorry - others might be able to provide more 'technical ' advice than myself. Thanks genos ...Glad you replied...i really am not technical.

I simply use the Logitechs for a fuller more rounded sound than my keyboards own speaker and amp can provide. I control and set the EQ using the keyboard itself. I dont mess with mixers....no need for me!

I would be careful of buying used sound equipment myself, well, unless you know where it came from and how it had been used.
You said earlier in the thread, You were concerned about the longevity of a system..? this would not apply with used stuff of course.

I suppose when you consider the new price of a decent sound system split over the years of use, the relative cost 'per use' is very little for the investment...

Why not maybe try a simple set like Logi Z333 ....see how you go, its a start, for little investment, they are really quite good, as said i have used these for small gigs and have a set on my PC .....cheap as chips!! .

Here is a guy that gives a great review on  the Logitech Z623. He takes it apart and shows the driver on the sub. Also runs a test.

Thanks - Given it has the THX Certificate, I recon all this sort of thing was done, so I did not really delve into it too deep. i just checked out some user reviews.

Its ok if your interested in the mechanics of this stuff...I am not, I just want it to sound good, be the right size, price and look for me, plus to work well along with my keyboards. bit like my car, I just drive it and don't really understand how it works.

Sure you will settle on what's right for you ...good luck in the meantime.
