Hi Guys

I would like to be able to choose 8 individual RGT files and merge them into just one RGT file so when I call up that single RGT file it will load all 8 files into my 8 registration buttons so I can play them in any order on the keyboard.   I have already been able to download RGT files that have 8 setups already in them but I would like to be able to make up  8 song gig lists by choosing 8 individual one song RGT files that already exist.

Is there any software that can do this easily???

Chris,
A registration file doesn't know if it contains set ups for 8 separate songs or 8 set ups for one song. So of course you can load set ups for 8 separate songs. It's easy to do this on the keyboard if you already have existing set up registrations for each song. You just load it, then load the bank you want to copy it into and save that set up into a single slot, then repeat this 8 times for the 8 songs and 8 slots.
Easy, but a little time consuming and I don't think there is a slick software way to do this because a registration covering a bank of 8 slots is a single file, not 8 separate files. So you cannot name or manipulate the set up in each slot as if they were an individual file.
In practice, most people would not want to do this anyway, and would find it much more convenient to have a single bank per song --- even if it only used one slot and 7 were empty. If you have set ups for 7 separate songs in a single file (bank), how can you name them, search them. And how do you remember what is in each slot.
Another neat way that was used by many, where only a single set up was needed for a song was what was called 'gig disks'. This is really just a Musicfinder file, named for a song with the set up already saved to it. To be honest, I am not sure how that works on the more modern keyboards that have stopped using the Musicfinder, ( I have a CVP) but I am sure it should be similar, in fact probably better.

If you have 8 separate registration files with a single registration contained in each one, sure you could load up 1 registration, then load up the 'master file' and save to one of the 8 slots there, re-save the 'master file' and rinse and repeat.

But I *strongly recommend against* this; Yamaha used to also cram several different song registrations into 1 spot, and were telling customers to do so. So I explained to them why that's a bad idea, and for the last 8 years or so now they do it the way I've recommended now, too: Save 1 (or 8, or even more) registrations specific to a song, and save the song name.

Because if you save 8 different songs into 1 file, your filename can only display about 32 characters (40 with Genos screens),it becomes a crapshoot trying to find a particular song's registration later. *so* much easier to name each file as the song it's intended for, and then those are always sorted alphabetically in your folder.

Yamaha *did* initially try to counter with "oh, it's ok, you can save the song names on each registration" (which is true) but then you have to load up each file one at a time to view the registration contents, and again, they won't be sorted alphabetically. Not a big deal if you have less than 10 registrations, but when you start getting into the 100's (or thousands) it basically renders that method useless.

And as you can see from the Genos 2 playlists/ CVP809/909 USA editions, they've now 100% embraced my way of saving registrations. You're only going to cause yourself headaches going the other way.

Thanks Guys

Just as an example a lot of performers on the tutorial site make up "gig disks"  ..See Steve's example here   https://www.psrtutorial.com/sty/gigDisks/GD_steven.html

He has 14 different RGT files BUT each file contains 8 setups so when you load a registration it drops each of the song setups into a registration button sequentially.

How is that being done either on the computer or the keyboard???

Hi Chris:

Gleston set you on the right track to use Yamaha Registration Manager (YRM) to accomplish this task.

You can choose more than one method for the creation of a gig disk/list.  Those methods produce either one song per button (like Steve has done), or one song per bank.

To produce one song per button, you would use the Builder feature of YRM, by opening your source registrations in the builder ( you can have at least 50 banks open at once) where builder will show the contents of each bank/button combination.  Chose a button, copy to the new bank.  Once the bank is complete, when saved YRM will evaluate the contents of the buttons against available settings on your T4 and alert you to any missing styles or voices, and highlight any custom files that need to be in a specific location.

The second method, my preference, is to have one song per bank, and use Gig List Manager to create your custom list of registration banks.  You would add your current banks to the available list (up to 350 banks), and choose from that list the banks you want in your Gig setup.  YRM will make a copy of the bank and add a sequence number to the bank name.  The order can be changed and items can be inserted in the list. You save the gig list (the actual duplicate registration banks) to a new folder of your choice.  With this method, on the keyboard you would select the first registration bank in the gig folder, after that you would only have to use the bank + key to move to the next in the list.  Created lists can be reloaded to YRM for additional editing to add, delete or change the order.

If you already have registration banks that contain one song per button, these can be converted to one song per bank using the Duplicate/Remove Settings feature.  When no bank is open in YRM, selecting this feature gives number of options that can be applied against any directory.  One of those options is Export Buttons To Banks.  The one assumption here is that the buttons have been properly named, since the program will use the button name to create the new bank.  If duplicate names are found, the file name will be subscripted with a number.

Of course, all of these things can be done directly on the keyboard if you have the patience and time to press a lot of buttons.

Cheers,

Murray
