A friend was asking these questions about Genos....
being I am only a 1 week Genos owner I thought to ask here where there is much more knowledge...
any answers appreciated to pass along.

"I have read through the owners manual and the reference manual.

I would be interested in some clarification, or verification. smile

Can you layer 4 sounds.. I know there are 3 right and 1 left, but in non split , can the left sound be layered with the 3 right? It also appears that sustain is not possible for the left sound.. Is that correct?

It also appears that chords do not appear in SMF's unless they are embedded . Is this true?

Can it read karaoke files (CDG and MP3 contained in Zip folders) Or do you have to convert to a Yamaha format?

How large of a flash drive can the Genos read ?

Is it possible to read a USB drive containing for example 30,000 karaoke files in a single folder, and use a
search feature to locate a specific song?

There is no sampler? Is this correct..? Can you import a wave file sample... for a tone, not a pad?

Would be interested in the same points with the SX900.."

Some answers
1 - No - but each voice is already 8 layers
2 - false. Sustain is not activated by default on left part but can be activated as for the other parts
3 - All is possible with Yem software on laptop then reload into Genos's expansion RAM

Harmony voices layer 4 sounds.

True

You have to unzip them, then they can be read. MP3 files are not Karaoke..

It hasn't been determined. People have used 128gb drives successfully.

The maximum number of files in a folder is 2500.

Your friend should join this forum.

The only time you can use four voices together is by using the ensemble feature in which the left voice is assigned a right hand part. Have you tried some of the set ups. They are very good.
With the new update the most the flash memory will read is 3 Gb.

Hi
I have not attempted this yet.
I think you can stack eight elements to make a larger sound in Yem
All the best

You're right, Eileen. I meant an ensemble voice.

But the only time when the ensemble voices play the 4 sounds (L+R1+R2+R3), is when you only play 1 note

EileenL

Ensemble gives you all four notes if you play four notes on the keyboard each note thus plays a different voice creating the ensemble effect. You can also use harmony echo if you wish.

For completeness  ;) ;)
Normal harmony and especially  Normal harmony echo set on Multi without Ensemble will give you up to 5 notes (depending on choice of harmony type) the latter using the three RH voices if all on (or 2 of them or even just 1) by using a single RH finger and chords in the left. But whether you regard this - and Ensemble - as "layering" depends on how you want to define it.
With those options the left voice is still available for LH use, (unlike with Ensemble).

Aaand for even more completeness ...

It's possible to run a MIDI cable from MIDI OUT back to MIDI IN and set things up so that you can use the 16 song parts in a single layer, by making all song parts respond to e.g. MIDI channel 1.

16 parts sounding together, each with it's own DSP .... imagine the noise you could make with that lot :)

I guess that would sound awful😀

Hi
The best way to have everything is to use the Genos with Vst Instruments and run Cubase.
