Just was wondering, do I need to save anything before updating ?
Is the V2 update going to wipe any of my setting in the Style and Voice favourites or user area's ?

Usually not.... But in any case always have a back up of all your work on keyboard, pc, etc, just to be sure..

Amen to that!

It isn't just data loss. It's all of the time that you spent customizing your instrument. You probably don't want to do all of that work again.

Value your data. Value your time. Always keep a current back-up.

Just to emphasize Vali's comment.

The update process initializes the System Set-up, MIDI Set-up and User Effect Set-up. Save the MIDI Set-up and User effect Set-up to a USB flash drive.

As to the System Set-up, read through the Parameter Chart in the Genos Data List. Look specifically at the System Set-up column. If you have likely changed any of these settings, write down the current values on a piece of paper or in a computer file. You will need to restore these settings manually after installation. Don't forget auto power saving and shutdown!

If you have any other data (registrations, etc.), save everything to a USB flash drive. You should be backing up everything periodically just in case. Even better, make a copy of everything on a personal computer as well as the USB flash drive. You never know when disaster will strike!

I just successfully updated. For more info, please read: http://sandsoftwaresound.net/yamaha-genos-v2-0-update/

Amen to that!! All settings are gone after the update, but my files are there. I took a backup anyway. Always the sensible thing to do!

Some of your settings will be erased by the 2.0 update and can't be restored by a backup.
So it is a good idea to take pictures of all the settings of the pages in MENU page 2 / UTILITY, so you know what settings need to be changed after the update

Also if you ever changed  EQ settings, Song Settings, Initial Touch etc.

As mentioned by Yamaha,
Even if you save the System Setup file before updating, it cannot be loaded after updating.
If you save the Backup data before updating and restore it after updating, the System, MIDI, User Effect and Registration data will not be restored.

Note, after the update Genos will start up and show an error message. No worries, it's only once.

That's just plain nuts! Then why bother backing up these core files? Am I wrong or is this update that destructive? Most of us (especially gigging musicians) have spent days configuring our Genos. If this update makes even one small change that we miss, it could be disastrous on stage. Even a Microsoft update doesn't mess with core files this much. This update scares the heck out of me.
"Learn" your music correctly, then "practice" it. Don't practice mistakes because you'll learn them.

Just as with a new keyboard the settings will be at factory settings. In her video Heidrun advises to take sreen shots of your settings and then it is easy to reset them as you want them.
Nothing else is altered during update. Small price to pay for such a large update.
