Hi all,

Apologies if already covered somewhere.

On my PSR S770:

1. Can a custom non standard voice be extracted from a style or OTS section WITH effects?
2. Can this voiced WITH effects be saved anywhere?
3. Can this new voice PLUS effects be used anywhere inside a style?

Thank you so much for your feedback,

If it is a sampled voice from a pack then the pack must be installed to use voice It can't be saved any where because it would not work.

No, not pack voices. I.e. your Korg with OTS styles. Some OTS voices play perfect on my 770 although nothing shows up in the voice name. Say I want to use one of those EXACTLY as is but inside a style. Can this be achieved?

There are no Voices to extract in a style file. The style only contains the MSB - LSB and PC number (information). The actual sounds come from the Preset Voices burned in ROM or from pack Voices installed in the expansion memory (NVRAM)

Hi Joe H,

And the effects? I think this is really what I'm after. I.e. some Genos effects plays on my S770 although it cannot be created direct from this unit. So say I want to use a current Genos style voice along with it's effects in another style - can this be accomplished?

Also I get the impression that voices (if parent voice resides onboard) with effects can be ported to OTS, but not to style parts. Is this definitely so?

What I want to do: Some non standard S770 voices from more advance arrangers plays fantastic as default style OTS voices. Those effects simply CANNOT be created direct from my S770 but they CAN be played on my unit. Now I want to use some of these fantastic OTS voices along with it's attached effect as a style part voice.

Cheers,

Henni,

Hmmm... The OTS Voices are R1 and R2.  These are determined by the VOICE SET parameters.  What takes place is the Voice is loaded first, then the VOICE SET file is loaded and alters the default settings of the Voice.

When we load the same Voice in a style Part the VOICE SET file is NOT loaded... so the Voice uses the default settings... then the Voice can be altered in the MIXING CONSOLE. There we have Filter Cut-off, Resonance, Reverb, Chorus, DSP1, and EQ.

So... you have to know what three DSPs were used on the Genos style in order to duplicate the sound on your S770.

Remember that the Genos has 8 Insert DPS effects that can be used with R1, R2 and R3, and also for style Parts so you may not be able to reproduce the sound on you S770.  Also the R1 and R2 Voices use the style Reverb, Chorus and DSP 2, 3 or 4 which is different than DSP1 used by the style.

I think you will have to do a lot of trial and error to get the sound you want to achieve.

Hi Joe H,

Thank you for taking the time to explain that in so much detail my kind friend. Now I fully understand the difference at last.

There is no copy and paste solution as I was hoping for.

Kind regards,

Great explanation, Joe.

If I remember correctly, a voice can be moved between a registration and an OTS slot (button). If a registration selects a voice plus effects, then the voice plus effects can be saved to an OTS slot in the usual way. Similiarly, pressing an OTS button brings up the voice plus effects, which can then be saved into a registration slot (button).

The tough problem is transfering the voice plus effects data to or from a style part. I would probably try to copy the info via MIDI using a DAW. The voice data  can be saved to a VCE file, which is simply a MIDI file in disguise. Style files, of course, are also MIDI files in disguise. Thus, the trick is to copy the voice data to/from a VCE file and style file.

Just some thoughts -- pj

If you have access to the keyboard that the style was originally mixed on, that would be ideal. We can get a lot of information from the Voice Set File by using MixMaster List View.

Hi gents,

Thank you so much for your feedback. It will definitely help me in future. I learned much from all of this. I think that Onacimus is also well versed on this subject as he achieved some amazing results using better effects on style voices.

Kind regards,
