Impromptu performance with a Don Ho backup singer

This entry is to share that I experienced a "career" highlight yesterday!

I played for an assisted living facility where the business manager had been a backup singer for Don Ho in her younger years (her stage name was Tiny Bubbles). I asked whether she was familiar with Don's Sweet Someone because I was going to lead off with it. She was and agreed to join me to see if we could perform it together.

She had no microphone. As we began I realized how powerfully she could project her voice, so I stopped playing the right hand, turned up the volume, and just provided Hawaiian band accompaniment for her with the left hand. She was so good I had goose bumps throughout the song. She included little comedic phrases that Hawaiian locals like to include when they sing the song. As I played the second verse, she filled by inserting other little phrases.

I was amazed how well it went and the residents absolutely loved it all. The S975 and Bose L1 Compact sounded really good for this.
