Hi I play every Sunday at a golf club for Sunday lunch using my PSR S975. No additional amplification is required so I just use the keyboard. Trouble is, because the room is very large all my audio levels programmed from home in registrations sound too quiet or wrong balance for the bigger venue. What advice can you give me to make sure my keyboard sounds as it should at the live venue by using the keyboards memory, Eq, whatever etc. Thanks

Hello Mark. I also used just the internal speakers for many years, but I am afraid it was just me wanting it to be sufficient. The internal speakers are NOT meant to be used for gigging, they don't spread the sound out in the room, just cast it up at the ceiling. I would seriously consider getting an external speaker system, like the Bose L1 Compact. There is a real danger of damaging the keyboard's speakers when you turn them up to maximum, and that is what we tend to do when we gig in a large room with just the sound of the keyboard. Not the answer you wanted, but I just had to say it :)

Toril is right - purchase a Bose L1 Compact and your problems are solved.

If the room is quite small, and the background noise low, you could probably buy a pair of small monitor powered speakers that will be more than enough. They would be a lot cheaper than Bose L1.
If you do want to go for something more like the Bose L1, then you should look at the Maui range, because people are raving about them,

I recommend the Maui LD5. It is less expensive and has a great sound.

Mike, the reason I recommended the Bose L1 Compact was not the volume level, but instead, the equal distribution of sound throughout the venue. I have not compared the Maui systems to the Bose for sound distribution and clarity, but DonM tells me that they are comparable and the Maui is about 30 percent less expensive. Mark said the venue was rather large, and with monitor speakers, which primarily are conventional, even when pole mounted, tend to have a huge amount of falloff beyond 50 feet, often as much as 50 percent. Line array systems, such as the Bose and Maui, experience less than 10 percent at 100 feet. Consequently, everyone in the room hears the same volume the player hears, and you do not need to use a monitor - big advantages.

All the best,

I can confirm that. Maul or Bose, but it is a HUGE benefit to have a line array system. I get positive feedback from the audience every single time I use my Bose.
