Adding Content To A New Pack

I have a number of expansion packs loaded into the YEM and I have created a new, empty pack. Can I copy selected content from my existing packs into my new pack, and if so, how?

Alan,

Select a pack you want to take Content from... click on the Voices, Style, Multipads, etc and Export and save as a .ppf (pack).  Give it a name that makes sense to you, and remember where you saved it to on your hard drive.

Do this with as many packs as you like.

Now "Import" these Content/packs you just saved into you New Pack... now give the your custom pack a name and save it back to you hard drive.  This is important because once you do that you will never loose it. Then create an Installation File to load into your keyboard.

Thank you for your lucid and logical reply. It gives me the complete answer to my question.

I feel sure that there must be many members like myself who, once they have got to grips with the basic mechanics of the YEM, would want to create their own pack(s) from those previously imported. I had hoped that the Yamaha Guide to the YEM would cover this topic, but I was unable to find anything useful. Instead, it devotes a lot of space to the rather specialised areas of how to create your own voices and drum kits.

I look forward to putting your description into practice. Thank you again.

P.S. in a half hour I have saved all the drum kits from each of my various packs as separate .ppf files. I then imported those into my new pack, selected just that, and saved it as a pack install file. Transferred that to my PSR s970 and there they are! Excellent.

It made a perfect little project to gain confidence in using the YEM. Thank you.

Alan,

You are very welcome.  Glad I could help.

Yes I think the process is not understood by many that we can export any 3rd party Voices, styles, song files, or Multi Pads as a custom .ppf (project file) than import them into a new custom pack. I now have too many packs to load into my S970 so I plan on doing the same thing for myself... taking the best of each pack and consolidating the Voices into a custom pack that will fit in the memory of my S970.

And it will have the additional advantage that because you get to choose the names of the files, it should be easier to find the components for which you're looking.

Hello friends,
I do not know why it is not possible to do this within YEM itself.
The funny thing is that the "copy" command is there, but you can not perform the copy operation.

I couldn't agree more. That Copy command was my initial problem. I couldn't see how it might be used. I followed Joe's guidance (see above) and achieved my objective, but the method isn't intuitive, and I've had to re-read the guidelines every time I come back to use the YEM.

I've copied all the voices from the packs in my collection and put them in a separate pack to go with the one I made for the drum kits.

Ideas to improve the YEM everyone has and knows. Yamaha knows too.
They will only have to implement the improvements.
I thought with the advent "Genos", they would have significant improvements, but this did not happen.
Nonetheless, I thank Yamaha for implementing YEM.

YEM, you can not live with him, you can not kill him! kkkkk  ;D

How do I install the new ppf I created on my S975 ?
When I plugin the USB with the file,  it's not finding it,  it seems that only PPI is recognized.  but Yem doesn't export that format

You will need to download the Yamaha Expansion Memory programme to your computer so that you can l install your PPF files into this. From there you can chose what packs you want to load and create an install pack which you save to USB. You then load this file into the keyboard. You will then access them via your user section.

Hi,
I do use that, and it creates a PPF file,  but the keyboard is not finding them.
it seems it's only recognizing PPI files.

I clicked on Function, and then  import packs.    When I clicked on USB and then the folder, i did not see them.
Am I missing something then?

PPF is for YEM. You load a PPF file in YEM.  It is a "project file".

PPI is for loading into the keyboard.  It is an "Installation file".

The way you create a PPI file in YEM is to select your keyboard (you must have already imported the .n27 ID file from your keyboard) To do that go to the System page on your keyboard. There is a button that allows you to Export Keyboard Information.  It will dump the .n27 file to your USB stick.  Then connect the USB drive to your computer and Import the Instrument under Install Target Menu in YEM

When you select your keyboard in YEM, you then select the pack or packs you want to create an Installation File for.  YEM will calculate the memory used for the selected packs.  You will see a Tab at the top of the screen to create an Installation File. When you go to save the PPI file give it a name so you know what the file is when you install it on your keyboard.

Thank you let me try that.
I totally missed the part to export the keyboard n27 file.    I thought that was just an instrument.    (Guess the manual and google was not clear to me)  or I am getting old.... lol

Again thank you
