Which guitar, which amp?

Hi --

Almost forgot to mention...

While spiffing up some Alan Parson's backing tracks, I got into an obsessive deep dive about the types of guitars and amplifiers that are used into the Genos, Tyros, PSR guitar voices:

Just for fun.

One surprise -- the S950 adopted the jazz guitar and single coil guitar waveforms first used in the Motif XF. And it's only gotten better from there.  ;D

I have already read this. Very good work, very interesting. Thank you very much.

Last week I saw a video about two guys playing a real guitar on a Kemper profiling amp (and comparing it blind with two real amps, but they failed....). Man, this is so far away from everything our keyboards can do. ;) And I mean both, the guitar playing technique (forget super articulation or mega voices), and the Kemper amp simulation. This is really top of art. But I think, this Kemper beast is using something more than one DSP program. ;) But the message is: digital amp modelling is possible.

Hi Uli --

Thanks for keeping eyes on the site. I didn't have the time during the Spring to add much new content, so posts slowed down.

It's amazing what people can do with DSP algorithms and fast processors these days!

I've noticed Yamaha reusing their guitar effect algorithms in multiple products: plug-ins, THR amps, etc. I wonder if they will start to use LINE6 technology in their keyboard products?

Just wrote a new blog post in the same vein:

This post looks into Metal guitarist Warren DeMartini (Ratt).

PJ,

this topic is still very interesting. I will come back on this soon.

In the meantime, I am experimenting with good guitar sounds on iPad:

* Use IK SampleTank for muted and unmuted clean samples of Strat and LP guitars
* Use keyboard split to switch between muted and unmuted strings
* Use PositiveGrid BIAS FX (or IK AmpliTube or Tonebrigde) for effect and amp/cab simulation
* Use AudioBus 3 for inter app audio routing
* Use Korg MicroKey Air (or Yamaha SHS500) as portable bluetooth keyboard
* Use Marshall Kilburn (don't use Kilburn II) as battery powered portable speaker

The results are quite impressing. I will try to transfer to results to MODX oder Genos later.
If someone is interested, I will make some photos and recordings to demonstrate the project.
