Pedal for Multipads.

Hi,

I just wondered if there is a way to trigger a multipad using a pedal on the Tyros 4?

Ideally, I would like to be able to press 2 multipads in sequence, but I doubt that would be possible?

Having checked the manual I see that it does not reference multipads as being an option but perhaps there is a way of doing it anyway, I live in hopes?

Thanks,

Martin

Hi Martin,

You could select the mulitpad(s) and save them within a registration (which you can trigger by a pedal).

Hi Wouter,

Thanks for the reply.

I don't understand how that would help in triggering a multipad?

Hi Martin,

what Wouter probably means is, you set the Multi Pads to "Sync Start", save this condition in a Registration (for example on Reg button #2) and use the "Registration Sequence" feature to switch from (in this example) Reg #1 to Reg #2.

But please note: The Multi Pads that are set to "Sync Start" will not start until you play the first Chord after changing to that Registration.

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the clarification, that is very helpful.

However, what I wanted to do was to trigger a multipad at certain points in the music.

First one pad then another then returning to the first pad again, as you can do in a registration sequence.

Although having checked the manual I cannot see a way of doing that.

It would be some much easier than having to take my hand off the keys to trigger the pad.

Hi Martin,

You seem to have answered your own question!

A correctly set up registration sequence will do what you want, and you can move through a sequence using one or two simple pedals if you don't want to press the buttons. You can memorise registrations with only the Multi Pad group included, so that when you select them they will not change anything else (style, voices etc.) that is currently playing.

Why is this not a solution for you?

If there is some reason why you don't want to use the above method, the only other way that I know of is to use the MFC10 template in the MIDI menu, which contains options to trigger multi pads 1 to 4 individually when certain notes are received over MIDI.  There is also an option to stop all playing multi pads.

Obviously this is intended to be used with the foot switches on an MFC10 unit and this would be the best way of using it, but after setting up the template on the keyboard, you can send the relevant notes to the T4 via any external MIDI source on the correct channel and the keyboard will respond just the same as if the notes were coming from an actual MFC10.

However, using registrations you can specify the multi pad bank that is loaded which means that you can use a second version of a bank containing a 'stopper' pad in the same 'button' as the pad currently playing which will stop just that pad, as well as starting a different pad in a different button.  I don't think that the MFC10 template can load a specific MP bank!

Hi Ian,

Thanks very much for the comprehensive reply.8-))

I agree that I can use the registration memory to keep the multipads but would that actually make the multipad sound when I changed the registration?

I don't need to stop the pad as it only sounds for a few seconds then stops.

I agree that the MC10 would do what I want but the price is too expensive.8-((

Perhaps if the pad doesn't sound I could use another midi source, controlled by a pedal to send the signal?

I can look into that.

If you memorize the pad with Sync Start, it will start when you press a chord.

This is the only way to start a pas, other than pressing its pad button.

Hi Fred,

Great, thanks for that.8-))

Looks like the only way is to do that and change the registration just before I hit the not that requires the pad with it set to syncro start.

Then hit the chord and the note, that should do it.

Or build a midi controller with an Ardurino with 5 buttons on it linked to each pad and the stop button.

Might be the best way to go for ease of use in the future.
