On Song Creator, we are able to create our own Chord Patterns on step Record.

But when we directly record the Song (midi)

The Step Record Function is blank
Why is that so?

I'm not with my keyboard right now but if I remember:-
Save the midi before you EXPAND it and save again after you 'expand' it

By saving it before you EXPAND you can go back and edit all the events
After you 'expand' you cannot go back and make any changes.

The step record is a great feature for students if you need to make a MIDI file
and your timing is not so good,

So there's no possible way to make changes to a Song Recorded outside of Step Record, ( Within the keyboard)

For example,
I hit the Record Button on Song Recorder.

It won't be able to show the Chords??

Thanks for the Saving Tip!

Do you mean when you quick record, you can't view the chords on the step edit page.

That's because when you enter data in the chord step edit, it's stored in the MIDI file in a special format.

You can 'expand' which means convert this special format data into individual note events on the channels (this also creates XF chord markers).

But you can't go the other way. You can't take a MIDI file which contains individual notes (or even XF markers) and create from it the special data format that the step editor needs.

This process is called
XF "Code".
The technical term?
Thanks!!

Another Quick question,
Sorry about my Ignorance.

When I Do a Quick Recording, it overwrites the Previous Recoding.  Then I can save it.

How I do start a new one for Step Record?

Also quite a lot of people play using Midi Files.
I still can't get my head around how to Sync Start the Playing.

Hi Norman,

I recommend always to start MIDI Recording with an initialized (empty) Song:

Press [REC] and [STOP] buttons simultaneously to bring up "NewSong" in Main display.

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)
