Problems with Forscore

I've been using Forscore,  newest version, current Mac OS, iPad pro for at least a couple of years without any problems. However, recently I've had problems with "anticipated, suggested" tag words/ composers etc. not showing at all when I enter metadata. I contacted Forscore Customer Service without any help (so far). They suggested it was a Mac problem, they've had other inquiries,  and they couldn't do much about this new glitch.

Worse... I THINK the program "crashed" and rebuilt my data files. I presently have about 1/3 of the total number of files that used to be there. I had it backed up, but am unsure if there is a way to incorporate this list showing on the iPad WITH the previous existing (guessing there will be duplicates.. over 4000 to eliminate)? If anyone has a clue about the first problem (metadata entry) and/ or the latter one... I would be ever so grateful!  Best to all, John

The Forscore Tech Support called and  I am still having trouble with the "help" words menus that  SHOULD pop up during metadata entries to quick finish the word (type Carole and Carole King shows up for selection etc.). BUT the best news is that my "loss" of files (that seemed to be there when searched but NOT showing up on the master list) was due to the "Score menu includes bookmarks" was not enabled. So.. the good news is they are there! And it's time for me to backup. I really love the APP Forscore and have spent lots of time scanning my sheets, books, etc. Thank you!

I too love ForScore.  Are you using Dropbox to scan in your music.   I was having no problems but now having problems with Dropbox interfacing with ForScore.   I have the current rev for each program.  Is there a setting between the two programs I'm missing.  Thank you for any suggestions

Hey Bob,
I HAVE had some delays between scanning music (PDF) to laptop, then transfer to dropbox. Then, as I'm sure you are doing, you use "services" in Forscore, select your dropbox account, see the items and click on them to be transferred to your iPad. I've been MORE than exceptionally pleased with Forscore for ALL the reasons and cannot really understand why anyone wouldn't use it exclusively. (I did try 3 other apps before settling on this). BUTTTTTTT having said that... right now I'm having a number of glitches including what you mentioned. The tech support at Forscore says that this is the result of an updated Apple OS and they can't do anything about it. I don't really know how to notify Apple about this. The transfer used to be almost instantaneous from Dropbox to Forscore/ iPad. Now sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't. Some keep their iPads "online" during use of the program, but I use Dropbox only to house my library of books and sheets as backup with most on the iPad at all times. I totally freaked the other day when i saw 2/3 of my total number of files missing from the main list of songs. (But it was due to the fact that I'd not selected "include bookmarked items with all list" and over 2/3 of my total library are individually bookmarked and annotated songs.

As we know, technology when it works is fantastic... and then once we are dependent, it's scary. If you have any ideas about this,  I so appreciate your sharing with me and the forum. I always appreciate your posts!! Many thanks, John

May I ask what your reasons are for adopting Dropbox as your preferred cloud storage medium, rather than one of the alternatives - Google Drive, OneDrive, etc? This is probably worth a new thread as there must be other members of the forum considering this question.

Hi Alan these are just my thoughts regarding Dropbox. With Dropbox
you can keep things nice and neat by creating as many folders as you like.
Have a great day!

John.....wow I really depend on ForScore with over 2200 lead sheets installed.   Having the same problem interfacing Dropbox .... I'm not particularly technology savey so depend on a transparent procedure and when it changes, my senior brain goes into a spiral of confusion.   I have updated to all the latest rev of software for Apple, Dropbox and ForScore and still have some problems.

Are you now able to bring up Dropbox under services on Forscore.....thank you for your continued research and will stay in touch with your posts

Regards and task you

I'm using SongBook

It's so easy on SB
Take a photo or screenshot of the sheet music and crop in iPad photos
No need scanning or Dropbox

Open SongBook and go to "Photo to PDF"
That's it, your sheet music is ready for go,

Hey Guys,

I'm not too techno savvy either. I like drop box because it is logical to me and it is WHAT I KNOW. I have over 13,000 entries. Many are books and then they are subdivided into individual scores/songs for my large "table of contents" on the iPad. For me, it is an easy way to scan ( I use a brother all in one laser printer/copier/scanner), save the scores to my laptop, transfer to the dropbox and then down load easily onto the iPad. I would find photographing scores very tedious and not very consistent in quality when one does a whole book of hundreds of pages.

Forscore that delay issues as well as the "help words" which appear with keyboard during meta data entry are due to the Apple OS which updated with glitches. I hope that in time they will be "fixed." But for now i have a lot of time and effort invested in creating my files with Forscore. Until the latest small problems, I've really loved Forscore and find it infinitely powerful to do what I need.  Please keep us posted if you find things are better or worse.
Best,
John

Hi John
Yes, things can be a bit frustrating at times no matter what we us,

But haven't we come a long way from buying sheet music and having to wait a long time for delivery.

I have 5000 sheets on my iPad, usb Drive (Sandisk),
I can access them regardless of WiFi connection and the search is pretty good.

I was pleased to see your emphasis on "WHAT I KNOW". I use Google Drive for exactly the same reason. You pay your money; you make your choice.
