Hello John,

Great to see you found a solution. I use both, Windows and Mac. Mac I prefer, but their pricing has become just unreasonable in the last little while - so unless I can get away with a Mac Mini or MacBook Air - they won't see me anymore in their store. For my Cubase work I use a Windows box and aside of the typical Windows quirks - it motors along OK. Have fun with your new PC and take good care. Cheers, Roland

Hi Roland
Been away from the club lately ,but back soon when all is settled down
With the Genos and new speakers and then the computer falling over my man cave needs a makeover.

I have done my groin in crawling around under the desk feeding leads through this and that and trapping  my neck on the underside trying to get out. "The Pain"!!! :P
Imagine the scenario!! :o
Hope all is well with you Roland and have a happy Christmas.
Hope I don't get a Hippopotomus for Christmas!!! ;D

All the best
John :)

Hi Peter
After the last couple of years with my eight year old computer things were slowing up and taking longer to open with win 10 updates, I decided to get a decent computer that hopefully is future proofed for at least six years.
With today's vst's getting more computer hungry we need something decent.
With the Genos side It is not so bad as midi triggers the onboard sounds.
Pc Specialists UK  build your computer and then put the machine under tests including heat testing for a day and see if anything is wrong and if ok then goes through quality control.
So when you get your machine It is fully bedded In.They also give me daily updates and should be dispatched to me this Friday, so I guess Monday It will be delivered.
They also put your machine in really strong bump proof packaging. On top of that I like the 3 year collect and return ,parts and labour if anything goes up the creek.
For six to eight years £1500 is not bad. Cheaper than a smoker trying to get to heaven. ;D

All the Best

This is the spec

Hi John, these specs look amazing except for one thing: it only has spinning hard disks, no solid state SSD!

This doesn't make sense. These guys clearly know what they are doing, based on these specs. But the first hard disk is a spinning one, and the second hard disk a meager 500GB? Granted, they both are 7200RPM, but no SSD??

It's like having a Ferrari on skeeler wheels: a very fast machine crippled with slow HD.

I expected one NVMe M.2 solid state storage (or at least a SATA SSD), combined with a large volume (2TB) hard disk. The SSD is for Windows and often used applications. The large sized hard disk is for sample libraries, and less used applications.

Please ask them why they chose spinning storage only! It would be a shame if you can't use the performance of this PC to its full potential!

Hi Maarten

Thanks for your comments.
I rang Pc specialists and the tech guy agreed with you and I have had it changed.
Cost me some more and has to go through testing again.
Hope that will do It Maarten
It was my fault as I changed the drives not knowing what the consequences were.
I know what you are saying now.
We all learn the hard way!!
I will still get the machine for Christmas!!

Thank you very much for putting me right Maarten

I have to agree about the SSD, it makes a huge difference. I put one in this PC, it boots into Win 7 in 25 seconds. I did the same with the laptop and that's up and running in just over 15! Opening apps is done in a flash and loading in samples is much faster.

There are a few good Audio PC makers in the UK and you've gone with one of them! I thought about it 7 years ago, but have always built my own so did so again, and it's still going strong. Has an XP side that still runs loads of older software, and a Win 7 side for day to day use, plus the later versions of Cubase and Sibelius etc.

Let us know how the new PC fares!
It's not what you play, it's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Hi Andy

Thanks to Maarten as this situation was all my fault. I changed the drives around thinking the bigger drive should be for the main drive.
I do not use a  second drive for lots of things as all the finished things can be put on a separate external drive for storage. Anyway I have lots of storage space now.
With my Daw and vst instruments plus all the editing tools the main drive adds up to about 200 gig including win 10.
Thankfully I can now have the proper wheels put on the Ferrari!! ;D
Hopefull I can also do some holiday movies or some movement for songs with Magix pro also

Pc specialist were very good and immediately got my computer out from dispatch and they are now working on It. It is now with Harry!! :o "oooz's Arry!!" ;D
Expensive mistake, another £100  for the change.
I suppose it Is better than being done for speeding!! ::)
Another learn curve to get over!! :)
In the meantime I can get lots of practice in on the Genos. The clarity is amazing!!
A good bit of tweaking to the registrations and sounds to be done with the old Tyros 5 song set ups.
That will keep me busy until the computer comes.
Anyway this will help anyone getting a computer to go with the Genos and vst's following this section as It is hard trying to get things right when you are not an expert.
Big thanks for all of your help.

All the best

Hi John......it has been very interesting and entertaining keeping up with your equipment journey!!

First....what does UGAWOGA mean?  LOL

Second....what is your ultimate output with all this amazing equipment?  Just curious Georgette here.

JohnS (Ugawoga)

Hi Jg

I took that from the Muppets show.!! ;D UGAWOGA!!
I do want to edit the Genos on the computer and that really does not use hardly any recources.
I now have the Arturia synth collection and a few other vst synths Including Sampletank 3 and Syntronik.
All of that uses quite a bit of ram and recources from the computer when multi-tracking in a daw such as Sonar Platinum.
Also you have a lot of effects that uses up more .
I got this computer with a lot of headroom for future proofing up to six to eight years.
My now defunct early I7's motherboard and graphics card was not updatable any more and a lot of other things in the devices column, not updatable.
Last week the computer went KAPUT!!. Even a defibrillator could not get It going again.
So things start to slow up and with an operating system like Win 10, It is only a matter of time before It acts like a ZX Spectrum ::) ;D.
When the new computer arrives, i want to start making electronic music  like Jarre, Camel, Bo Hannsson, Ozric Tenacles, Oldfield, a hybrid of those type of influences.
That Is my ultimate goal, but practicing  and playing without engineering a song is most important to me.
I hope that is a good explanation.

Another thing that can slow you up Is things like Norton Anti-virus and Malware programs ,but they are necessary If you download or update vst's and Daw's
I only use a music computer to do the necessary downloading. I have another computer for general Internet use.
I do not play out and I am home studio based.
Over time I think in my view is you get what you pay for  and i do not want to fiddle about inside electrical equipment as I would get my fingers burnt.
I cannot thank Maarten enough as I had the drives around the wrong way when I Ifilled in the spec.
Fancy having a Ferrari on Skeeter wheels. I think in my terms It means trolley wheels from Tesco!! ;D

All the best
John :)

Jeff Hollande

Hi John,

As you might remember I am a frequent DAW user.
I am using a lot of VST's.
I have a simple i3 Win pc and an old G5 Mac / 2Ghz.

I never met serious problems but I am sure an i5 and surely an i7 are absolutely more powerful.

On the other hand I am still convinced a Mac is a better and a more stable tool for deep editing jobs.

But ... who am I ?

Cheers, Jeff

JohnS (Ugawoga)

Hi Jeff

Using just midi and the Tyros or Genos ,the I3 is enough

For vst's on a lot of tracks the I7 is the better  Quad core or plus is better than Dual Core.

All the Best
John

Ps I think The PC Specialist's are still Hammering and chiseling away at my I7 up there In Wakefield!! ;D

Hi,
Also 8th generation Intel chips are reputed to be up to 40 per cent faster than 7th generation chips.

You're welcome! Glad I could help.

Don't beat yourself up over the 100 quid. Having two hard disks would be far worse!  ;) You got it corrected in time, and that's what matters.

You will have a blazingly fast machine!!

Hi Maarten

In the nick of time !! Thanks Maarten.

The machine has been dispatched and will be in posession of It on Monday(Update today Yippee!!)
