Hello friends.
I have recorded some MIDI songs I have on my S970 to Wav using the USB recorder on the keyboard. But I find the volume is too low. i turned up audio volume on the recorder from 100 to 120. Still very low! What settings is best for me to use. And, have the level of the master volume of the keyboard anything to say? Many of you have crisp, clear sound on your recordings. I don't seem to get it, and am a little dissapointed...

Try 3 things.

1. Turn up the style Volume to 127 in the Mixing Console

2. Turn up the Gain Offset on the Master Compressor

3. Turn up all 8 EQs several increments in the Master EQ

The idea is to increase the overall volume output of the keyboard going to the USB Audio Recorder Input.

Well, I don't own an S-970, but I do own an S-950, which has pretty much the same attributes when it comes to recording.

First and foremost, set the master volume of the keyboard to about the 12 O'clock position - that's all you really need and anything above that threatens distortion.

Next, the default style volumes seem to work best for most USB recordings.

When you fire up the USB recorder, set the recording level at 70. Yeah, I know that sounds low, but it keeps those recordings crisp and clear.

After recording the song, remove the USB stick, place it in your PC and fire up Audacity. When you get to Audacity, select effects and set the Normalize setting to -0.6 db, which is where most songs are set at for publishing.

It's that easy,

Gary, have you done anything to the compressor gain ofset?

Gary: I did as you instructed, and it worked great! More clarity and louder. I am making a CD for my friend just for fun. When I tried this before, just using the default settings on the keyboard, not using Audacity,  the sound was too low, and it lacked crispness in my opinion. Learned something new again, from friends on this forum. I will fiddle with the EQ and compressor again when I get the nerve to do so....

No need to mess with the compression. The default setting works just fine.

Glad everything worked out for you, Toril, and when you decide to mess with the EQ settings, keep in mind that a little goes a long way.

On the global EQ settings, try this:

EQ1 +4
EQ2 +2
EQ3 +3
EQ4 +4
EQ5 +5

No need to mess with the freq adjustments -  they work just fine most of the time.

Hope this helps,
