Yamaha Genos 2 / Re: Unable to load Epic String...
Last post by overover - Today at 10:32:39 PM
Hi @Tommarr,

You may not have created the .ppi file for Genos2, but for another install target that is present in your Expansion Manager (YEM). (See below.)

It is also important that you use the current YEM version (V2.11.0) and ideally also have the current firmware installed on the Genos2 (V1.10).

Do you have several packs in the Expansion Manager (YEM) that you want to install together on the Genos2? Or is "Epic Strings 2" the only pack?

The file type .ppi (unencrypted pack install file) that you mentioned is used when only unencrypted packs (.ppf) are involved, i.e. no encrypted (.cpf) pack.

Please note that pack install files (both unencrypted .ppi files and encrypted .cpi files) are model-specific. You must therefore have a Genos2 install target in the YEM and select it. It would not work with a different install target (e.g. Genos(1) or PSR-SX900) because the .ppi/.cpi file created with it would not be compatible with Genos2.

Then make sure that all packs you want on the Genos are selected (light green check mark) and click on the "Save as Pack Install File" button. Then, if available, select the file type "Pack Installation File (*.ppi), otherwise "Pack Installation File (*.cpi)".

Please make sure that you do not accidentally use the file types "Pack Quick Installation File (*.pqi") or (*.cqi). (Pack Quick Installation files allow you to add data as fast as possible. Before using *.pqi or *.cqi, you need to save/install a *.ppi or *.cpi to the instrument.

If the error "Unsupported File" still occurs when installing on the Genos2 (under "Menu > Expansion"), I recommend exporting the Genos2 Instrument Info file (.n27) to a USB stick again and importing it into the YEM again. (Delete the old Genos2 Install Target in the YEM first.) Then save the .ppi/.cpi file again to the USB stick as mentioned before.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Yamaha Genos 2 / Unable to load Epic Strings 2
Last post by Tommarr - Today at 08:24:38 PM
I purchased EPIC Strings 2 from Soundworks, as recommended by Leigh.

I followed the steps using Expansion Manager. Saved file as .ppi

When I attempt to load it onto my Genos 2 I get message Unsupported file type.

I contacted Yamaha Support. They agree, and saw screen shots that I followed proper steps.
Still getting the same error message.

Does anyone have advice?

Thanks.

Drake, you probably already know this, but anyway:
You can record the voice demos with MIDI Quick Recording. And then you can display the notes of the recorded demo with the score function. And with MIDI Multi Recording > Step Edit you can see all the modulations.

Problem.....Tried following Rudy's instructions to connect a Registration direct to my Genos using Mobilesheets.
Double checked I did everything correctly, but for some reason or other when I reach the final instruction part on Mobilesheets, Edit / Midi Page to link the registration with M/Sheets....there isn't a 'chain icon link' showing so as to complete the link. Anyone have any ideas ??

I'm using an 'HONOR' tablet requiring an adaptor to link to Genos.

Thanks
Gordon

Hi Gordon,

One of the most important points is that in the MIDI settings of MobileSheets under "MIDI Device" the item "Genos, PSR-SX Models" is selected. Have you made sure of this?

Welcome to the PSR Tutorial Forum, @Pharoah!

I recommend first checking the external Power Supply and its cables/plug (having a specialist checked) or testing an equivalent power supply. It must be ensured that the power supply (Yamaha PA-300C, Output 16 V DC/ 2.4 A) provides the mentioned nominal voltage of 16 Volts correctly if the keyboard is connected.

In my opinion, this is the only thing you can do yourself (or an electric specialist). If the power supply is not the reason for the incorrect behavior of the keyboard, only a Yamaha Service Center or an electronics specialist who is familiar with Yamaha arranger keyboards will be able to help.

First, the best thing to do is contact the music store or the online retailer where you bought the PSR-A5000 and ask for it for help.

I would not try to fix it yourself.

I would do as Yamaha suggested and send it back to them and have it fixed correctly.

Hi @hjones,

I only use a dry, soft microfiber cloth, moistened with a few drops of water if necessary. I use it for the display as well as the keyboard and the entire housing surface (Genos2, Genos1, Tyros5).

I would advise against using a screen protector film/foil, and I certainly don't use one. Some users use screen protectors designed for smartphones or tablets, for example, or transfer films designed for printers. It should be noted that the Genos and SX models do not have so-called "capacitive" touchscreens (multi-touch capable) like smartphones/tablets, but rather "resistive" touchscreens (not multi-touch capable). Any screen protector should therefore not be too thick so as not to impair correct functioning.

With the Genos1, some users also reported that the touchscreen no longer responded if the screen protector used had slipped too far to a certain edge of the display.

I was just setting up the Pedal Steel guitar in the OTS for the style. I tried Pedal Steel Guitar 1 and 2, which are both NEW voices. They both sounded like an electric piano rather than a Pedal Steel Guitar voice. I then clicked on the Demo of the voice. I don't know that the deal was but there is no way that recording was "played live" using the voice on my SX920 keyboard.

I did use my Pedal Steel guitar 3 voice from the Legacy section in OTS1 and then added the NEW Pedal Steel Guitar 1 voice with it in OTS2. Now that sounded fine and maybe a bit fuller in sound.

I was really looking forward to using those new Pedal Steel voices. Maybe there is a trick to tigering them to do something special.
