Title: 9.7" iPad Too Small
Post by: alanclare on Aug 11, 2017, 01:59 AM
Has anyone else found the 9.7" iPad too small for comfortable reading a page of music, bearing in mind the distance from one's eyes to the music stand? ForScore's crop facility is useful for maximising the useful page content, but I still find it too small. I am experimenting with various tablet-holders to bring the iPad nearer to me, but I'd be interested in anyone else's experiences.

I can't justify £1000 for the larger iPad.

Hello,

Just google for item 'Goosneck Ipad" take a look at google pictures, maybe there is a solution that is suitable for you.

example is in my link for you. https://www.google.nl/search?q=gooseneck+ipad&client=firefox-b&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiswqrH187VAhXEYlAKHVWhADsQ_AUICygC&biw=1440&bih=760 (https://www.google.nl/search?q=gooseneck+ipad&client=firefox-b&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiswqrH187VAhXEYlAKHVWhADsQ_AUICygC&biw=1440&bih=760)

Thanks for that. If I knew how to insert and image into this post I would have done so.

Hello Allan,

Have you already thought about using a microphone stand/pole on witch you connect a goose neck or connect a Ipad holder direct to te screw of the mic arm?

I include a link to give you a idea of what i mean. https://www.parts-express.com/talent-iclaw-mic-or-music-stand-holder-for-apple-ipad--233-048 (https://www.parts-express.com/talent-iclaw-mic-or-music-stand-holder-for-apple-ipad--233-048)

Now that I like. To an engineer, it looks like a serious bit of kit, especially compared to the Heath-Robinson arrangement that I'm using at the moment (see my link above). I shall have to determine whether this apparatus can project sufficiently from a microphone stand at the back of the s-970, to bring the iPad close enough to read.

Thanks very much for the suggestion.

The other option is to move the music stand closer. Eileen posted a link to a product which replaces the posts the stand rests on. Basically reversed the angle of the posts so the stand was positioned just above the display. Might be the most effective solution. Hopefully she'll chime in and post the link again, or you could search for it.

Eileen says that the only place you can get them is via Glyn Madden at the Yamaha Club, and that they are very well made.

Thanks Fred.

Yes, I wish they were available in Canada.

Hi ,
I have been following this thread as I too find that the music is too far away from me.

I am looking for something to hold sheet music rather than an ipad though - hope it's ok to post in this thread as it's linked.

I have done a little investigating following suggestions above - I was unable to find the accessory Fred mentioned available from Glyn Madden, Yamaha club (and I'm in the UK Fred !) but I did come across this:

Music Stand Extensions (for Tyros keyboards) available from them for £44 (product code EB 543)
It states quite clearly that it's for Tyros keyboards but I am wondering if it would fit on my PSR s970 ?

Have any of you purchased this stand by any chance for your tyros and maybe have a PSR too so would know if it would fit ???  A long shot I know but thought I'd ask as it's not possible to email the club with questions about their accessories apparently - just a phone number and I thought I'd ask here before I ring them.

Thanks
Sue  :)

Nick who was a friend of mine had a really bad stroke and no longer makes these. They would not work on a PSR keyboard as the stand is totally different to Tyros series.

Hi Alan and Eileen
Thank you for your posts - I'm sorry to hear of Nicks health issues Eileen.

Guess it's back to the drawing board for me.
Hopefully somebody will find/develop a similar music rest suitable for the PSR's - clearly from other posts I'm not the only one who would like one.
Thanks again

Hi folks,

Has anyone here used the Ipad Mirroring feature or Apple TV option.  You could use a small TV monitor linked to the IPAD and have a really large display,

I guess it wont work if you are using the USB input to Ipad, with pdf music apps

I have to comment on this.. I have in the past used the enlarge/crop feature on Forscore to make some scores readable. If you realize that often Fake books may put 3 songs on one page, to be scanned, and then loaded into a small screen iPad or other tablet, it makes the chord letter almost always unreadable no matter what the music stand is.  I prayed for Apple to FINALLY produce a page sized iPad. I'll have to tell you, that the iPad Pro has changed my world at home and playing OUT, and I thank God everyday I'm able to have one. I laugh and say that I could live in a cardboard box if I could have my arranger keyboard and my iPad full of music. Even tho it isn't a cheap option, it is something that improves my life every single day. Best, John

I agree with everything you say

I tried the small iPad, did not work for me,

My first iPad Pro 12" stoped working after 15 months

It was so valuable for my music work that after 3 days I caved in
Went out to buy another one,
It's not cheap but it's something I use everyday for many things

I have many pc's and laptops but my iPad Pro 12" is at the top of my list

Make sure you back everything up often, 😀

It would still work because the iPad used wi-fi or bluetooth to connect to the external display.

I purchased a reconditioned Windows 7 PC from Amazon under £100 (flat model not tower) and I had a 23" monitor knocking around which I fitted to a swing arm tv wall bracket. My scores are saved as PDFs on a USB  stick.
Only used for music with my keyboard.

I don't understand why anyone would even think of using an ipad for reading music. It's much too small. Hopeless.
I've used Power Music Professional for 20 years along with a 21" LED monitor. I get two A4 sheets side by side on screen. Easy Peasy.
It is not expensive but you do have to buy a monitor screen @ about £120.00p.
All my music is in PDF format in the laptop, and easily transferable from there to the Power Music Professional system (which is also in the laptop).

I still don't understand this obsession with Apple products ... ...

Hi Eileen,
I'm sorry to say Nick, who made the stands, died a few month ago.
