Can you transfer the T4 music finder data from one to a replacement? My old T4 is showing it's age and I'm considering buying another, second-hand, but in much better condition. The old music finder is all my own work, 10 year's worth and none of the original settings exist. All help and advice greatly appreciated.     8)

What is your next keyboard model going to be? The newer keyboards do not use the music finder any more.

Once you have your next keyboard, someone can explain the process to you.

You can easily transfer the music finder from one T4 to another T4.

To transfer it to a different keyboard, it would need to be converted first.

The newer arrangers use "Playlists" but the can import Music Finder files into the new format. They look and work a little differently, and some styles may not be present on the new keyboard.

But if moving to another T4, or even a T5, it's just a simple file to be copied over.

Hi lenzieman

This is a short video showing how Music Finder is converted into a Playlist. Please turn on English subtitles.

Thanks to all who replied.  As far as I can gather, I just download the music finder data, on my present T4, onto an USB, then upload it onto my replacement T4.......  Right?         8)

Hi @lenzieman,

You can save the contents of your Tyros4 Music Finder as a single file (.mfd) on a USB stick. This is also my recommended method for creating a backup of the current MF status from time to time. It's best to copy this file to your computer as well.

On the other T4, you can import the previously saved .mfd file back into the Music Finder. Normally, you use the "REPLACE" option here. (With "APPEND", the previous MF content of the other T4 would be retained, and the contents of the .mfd file would be added.)

The procedure for this is described on page 82 of the Tyros4 Reference Manual, which you can download here if needed:

Hope this helps!

BTW just remember that if your music finder is using custom copies of styles (with e.g. your own OTS setups) then you will also need to copy those styles to your new T4, and in the same folder that they were in on the old T4.

Thanks DerekA for such a detailed and helpful reply. I am currently 'watching' a T4 on eBay.  Perhaps I'll be using your advice sooner rather than later. Thanks again.         8)
