Hi I'd welcome your thoughts on if given the choice you'd opt for a CVP709 over a 805.

Having tried both I prefer the keybed and speakers of the 709, but am worried am I buying a product that is slightly too old, even if it appears to be in near mint condition.

The budget doesnt sadly stretch to the 809 which would be my preferred option.

Thanks

It's hard to advise as the choices on two excellent keyboards are so personal.
The 800 series is not not light years more up to date than the 700 series, and as far as I know there isn't too many added features and if there are some, will they be important. Sometimes the added features are a novelty you seldom use after a while. Thats a matter of you going thru the list of functions in detail and deciding what matters to you.
You say you like the speakers better on the 709, but I wouldn't put too much weight on that because sound is easily improved if necessary. A decent pair of small powered external monitors placed on top or hidden behind are an easy and fairly low cost add on. I did that on the 705 and got just as good sound as the 709 for about 100 dollars!
The keybed on the 09s is better than the 05s but again that is a personal choice. Neither are as good as a top quality grand. When I bought the 05 I compared an 09 and didn't think the keybed difference alone really worth the cost difference - and I am a pianist.

You don't mention appearance as a differentiator, but for me that may be the biggest difference. The CVP unlike most other arrangers is a piece of furniture.  Most people will put a CVP in a living area, so how it looks is usually important, and the 09 series have a very different look from the 05. For me that would probably be the decider as I think other differences are small and would not affect my playing enjoyment much......if at all. I just think the 09 looks way better.

If it was going in my front room the 709 is definitely the way I would go. In my case I was not doing that, I have a beautiful grand piano already in my front room, and the CVP was going upstairs in my man cave. So I went with the 05 and saved the money. But since you say both are about the same price, I would be opting for the 709, even to go upstairs.

I have been fortunate to have had a 709 and played the 805 and 809. I wont repeat the 09 speaker and keybed being superior.
The main difference is the 7 series is based  on the T5 and the 8 Series on the G1.
However I had a G1 and 709 and everyone preffered the richness of the 709 over the genos even tough i was using HS7
The 709 is a real piece of furniture.
Its also worth mentioning that a lot of tyros owners can`t get away with the genos, and i know of at least 3 that have reverted to the T5 or T4.
I would have a 709 in aheart beat, the difference in price between a 709 and 809 just doesnt make sence.
Im sure people will have other views but for me the 709 is great value for money.

Thanks all,

I've decided to go with my initial feelings and go with the Cvp 709. Preferred the Keybed over the 805, and the sound seems richer at least to my ears.

Just have to wait for it being delivered

I think that's a good choice. You will enjoy playing it. And it also looks the nicest.
