My PSR S-910 is unable to read MP3 files at all. It was previously able to read it, but now it completely freezes the screen for about 1 whole minute(even unable to use any of the keys or buttons; literally the entire keyboard freezes) when I try to play a MP3 audio and crashes, eventually turning off.

What I've tried:

I've tried using the latest firmware version available on the Yamaha Site.

I've also formatted the keyboard and checked again.

Let me know if it's a software issue, or if I'd have to replace some kind of decoding hardware present within the board.

Hello,

Sadly, your 910 is getting older.  When that happens things start to deteriorate deep within and unexplained events occur or perhaps not occur.

I had a PSR 2100 that did the same thing. So I took it to an electronics expert and had it inspected thoroughly. Unfortunately there was nothing that could be done to save it.

Im not saying that this could be happening with your 910 but it is likely on the way out. Things like these keyboards don't last forever and twenty years or so is a good life expectancy.

I replaced my 2100 with a 910 and loved that board, the rubber buttons not withstanding. It was awesome, but you may have to consider an upgrade.
I know you probably don't want to hear that, but........sorry

Regards and good luck. I hope you can fix it,

It would be very unusual for the MP3 playback function to suddenly stop working.

I suspect that the MP3 file itself is defective, or that the MP3 file is in a format that your PSR-S910 can't play.

Not all MP3s are created equal. MP3 files can be encoded in different ways. The manual explains what your keyboard can play on page 75. Furthermore, an MP3 file could simply be corrupted, but it might still be played by your PC, but not by the PSR-S910.

Be sure to try a few different MP3 files. Ideally, you should have an MP3 file that you know with 100% certainty could previously be played by your PSR-S910.

Kurt is spot on; either your file is incompatible (I think  s910 can't read VBR files; so you need to have constant bitrate 128kbps or 160kpbs or 192kpbs. It's also possible your mp3 is 48khz, not the needed 44.1

It's also possible your USB stick is wearing out (I just had one last week that I'd been using for 5 years suddenly just stop working)
