VOICE EDIT the Song Parts?

Why does it seem that VOICE EDIT is only available to edit the panel voices (L, R1, R2, R3)?

I'm trying to compose a song using an external sequencer on Song Parts 1-16, yet the VOICE EDIT option is unavailable to customize these sounds.

Am I missing something?

Create a customised voice first (saved as a vce file) then select that voice for the song part.

Yeah I sort of figured that as a work around. But it just doesn't make sense why Yamaha wouldn't let you edit any voices that are not Panel voices. This is supposed to be a flagship machine.
