Q: Does anyone here have any experience in using Registration Manager with the DGX-670?

I'm considering purchasing a PC to run the software and use it myself, but just thought I would first seek any opinions/advice I could here.

Hi @Sherif Shaalan,

Probably relatively few DGX-670 users use Murray Best's "Yamaha Registration Manager" program (YRM).

But YRM (from V5.3) is definitely compatible with the DGX-670, and you can basically use all the program's functions in the same way as with other supported models (e.g. converting registration banks from other models to the DGX-670 format).

However, it should be noted that the DGX-670 only has 4 registrations per bank (compared to 8 or 10 registrations per bank on PSR-S/SX, Tyros and Genos models). When loading a bank (of another model) that contains more than 4 registrations, only the first 4 are displayed if the DGX-670 is set as the target keyboard. To use registrations #5 - #8/10 of such banks, you would have to swap them manually (in the "Registration Builder" function).

You will also often receive error messages/warnings when converting registration banks from other models because many voices/styles/multi pads are not available on the DGX-670.

What do you actually intend to use the YRM program for with the DGX-670? The program is not necessary for normal use of the DGX-670, i.e. to create your own registrations based on the current panel settings. Have you read the YRM manual yet? Before you buy a PC/laptop just because of this program, I definitely recommend downloading the YRM manual first and studying it carefully.

By the way, as was already said in another thread on this topic, any PC is basically suitable for running the YRM program these days. A PC/laptop with an Intel i5 processor is generally highly recommended. However, a Celeron processor or any AMD would easily suffice. For Windows 10, 8 GB of RAM is sufficient, for Windows 11 I recommend at least 16 GB (ideally 32 GB).

You could also use a used laptop with Windows 10, but keep in mind that Windows 10 will only be supported by Microsoft until October 2025 (so there may be security gaps after that if the PC is connected to the Internet). And older Windows 10 PCs can often only be "persuaded" to update to Windows 11 (and, above all, to ensure stable operation with it) with a lot of know-how.

Best regards,
Chris

Thank you for your detailed reply, Chris. I was hoping YRM could assist me in organizing my registrations and creating multiple playlists, all through a larger and more user-friendly interface compared to the small screen on the keyboard. Even after nearly a year of using the DGX-670, I still find navigating the menus quite cumbersome. Unfortunately, I've accidentally lost over 50 registrations due to incorrect button presses and a lack of understanding of the proper saving procedures—both internally and to USB. It would be incredibly helpful if there were an in-person instructional seminar I could attend to better grasp these functions. Would you please direct me to the YRM manual?

Hi:

The way YRM is currently constructed, if a registration containing more than 4 buttons is loaded, although you can't see the buttons beyond the first 4, if you save/convert the bank all buttons will be saved in separate banks.  For instance a Genos registration containing 10 buttons will be saved in 3 files, two of 4 buttons and one of 2 buttons.

This also applies going from 10 buttons to 8. The first 8 are saved in the bank you name, the latter 2 are saved in a bank of the same name subscripted by 01.

The version 5.3 download contains the supplemental manual, here is the link to the original user guide. Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login
