Vocal Harmony section questions....

I think I already know the answer to these, but is it possible to get either a SINGLE one above OR one below voice for the harmony?

You know, like a simple duo, two voices (lead and one harmony) only?

And secondly, how do I eliminate the "auto-tune -Cher" thing happening when I bend my lead voice up or down?

Select the default "Duet Harmony" that comes with the keyboard.

Go to the "Vocal Harmony" screen
Then tap on the words "Standard Harmony", it will take you to the harmony library of 55 settings to choose from.

Yes already done that, and all are at least one above/one below, it then goes to variations of two or more and bass.....there is no SINGLE harmony either above or below, option!

Though there may have been a work-around somewhere!

Apart from vocoder which is useless as when you go higher up the keyboard all you get is "chipmunk" voices!

I thought I'd be able to ditch the TC Helicon with this Yamaha. Apparently not!

Yea, you are right. Yamaha apparently has remove the ability to create your own back up singers. That would be crazy to do that.

I just went looking on my new SX920 and I have not been able to find the screen to turn the backup singers on and off. You could adjust the singer to sing lower or Higher above your voice. And you could adjust the reverb amount on your voice and the backup singers voice.

I still have my old S950 keyboard in the basement stored. I may need to keep it if I want to make any new backup singers. I have over 30 setups. All the setups are saved in registrations and all of them work fine in my SX950 keyboard.

Surely there must still be a way to set up the VH2, someone has to have figured it out.

Hi Pax,

Yamaha should replace the old VH2 which has been the same since 2010 (Tyros4). Still, you can get some cream out of it. This seems quite satisfactory to me even though I don't use it live. I prefer a real female vocalist next to me. ;D

You might have meant these voices above and below. Put the above Video at 05:00 and turn on the subtitles.

Thanks ckobu

That video shows where Yamaha has moved the controls to setting up your own VH setups.

At about 2:32 in the video you can see the 4 staffs, that is the 4 voices. It is showing that there are 3 voices singing higher than the Singer's real voice.

Here is a video explaining the process using the Tyros 5. The screens have changed but the process is the same.

Simply an outstanding set of three tutorial videos. Brilliant!

Thanks much, and I now have renewed faith in the Genos. With that info I can now create harmonies that I will use.

Just to confirm, any/all of the settings I make here (say in the Scale Diatonic section) in particular the Key being used, can be saved in a registration? Or is it better to save various vocal setups and then link to them from the registration? hahaha, or is that all the same? I am still very new to the Yamaha way of doing things, coming from a Korg arranger background.

I'm glad the video helped. I think the Korg vocalist is better though.
Yes, you can save the VH2 settings as USER but you can also save them to the Registration. It depends on what you prefer.

As an experienced past user of the Korg vocalist myself, could you tell me in what ways you feel it is better?

PS: just curious is all :)

For singing live with the VH2, you will need to use a registration. I use the last 2 banks ( 7&8 ) to control turning the Harmony on and off while singing live.

I have hundreds of live recordings of me using the VH2 with my Keyboard.

In a few videos I use 3 different setting to the song.

The Korg vocalist has a more natural sound and reacts better to possible singer mistakes.
