When I play a sound of the Pad category the sustain pedal do not affect the sound. So, no sustain on Pad sound category???

Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Not every pad sound responds to the sustain pedal. But for example the voice 80sBalladPad responds to the pad pedal (on the SX720).

Hi @Dievas,

When the Sustain pedal is pressed, the voice in question behaves in the same way as if the key was held down.

Whether the sound in question is held indefinitely or whether the sound still gets quieter (or fades out completely) depends on the internal programming of this voice (specifically the so-called "sustain phase" of the amp envelope and whether the sustain phase (i.e. the sample) is looped or not).

Unfortunately, in the Voice Edit display you only have access to amp envelope parameters for Attack, Decay and Release phases, but not to the Sustain phase. Therefore you cannot change anything here.

The only thing you could try is to assign the pedal to the "Sostenuto" function instead of "Sustain" for such voices. Some voices then react "better" to the pressed pedal.

Or you could try using the "Panel Sustain" function (SUSTAIN button). This function adds "Sustain" to the Right voices. However, this has nothing to do with the effect of the Sustain PEDAL, because with "Panel Sustain" only the RELEASE phase of the amp envelope is extended.

By the way, you can set the desired Panel Sustain level for each Right Voice separately (in the Voice Edit display). With "Direct Access > Sustain button" you can go directly to this setting for the currently selected Voice. You can either save the edited Voice settings directly in Registrations, or you can save the edited Voice(s) as User Voice(s).

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Thank you Chris.

I don't understand this. In the previous Genos also the same issue.

Why in a lot of sounds we can't use the sustain pedal, Yamaha?.

This is crazy. I can't sustain a choir preset with the pedal. WHY????

Choirs and some pads on Yamaha arrangers (including Genos 2 apparently) do not sustain indefinitely while pressing the sustain pedal as they do on Yamaha synths such as the MODX. As Chris noted, the Sostenuto pedal will achieve the results you want to sustain the choirs. I suggest you attach two pedals, one for Sustain, the other for Sostenuto and see which voices work best with each.

Another thing you can do is assign a choir or pad voice to the Left Hand voice layer and make sure the Left Hand Hold is on. Then you can see which voices are programmed to hold indefinitely and which ones are not.
