I'm new here and after doing some reading and making 3 posts I'm a bit surprised that no one mentions nimbu.

I love my Tyros. But I'm also addicted to nimbu. It's a nice add-on for song-related playing. With lots of features especially for Yamaha keyboard players.

Do you make styles with it Andreas?

There is a video here about making accompaniments from midi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGk5SB5-rU8

It's too late for me to try it. Goodnight, sleep tight

Hi Mary

As far as I know from the website it generates new chords from a midi file on your computer and then you connect the computer to your keyboard via midi .. I guess it would be neat if you had a small laptop to do the calculating  ... that video shows you what you can do BUT I don't think it creates a style file that you can use on your keyboard you have to connect the computer with the software into your keyboard to generate the fancy chords.  I of course could be wrong because the video doesn't tell you very much ..Lets see that Andreas has to say????

I haven't got time to really look at it properly until after Christmas. I am determined to make a dent in the midi mess collection before all else. It might be interesting though if it does give styles that can be used on the keyboard. Yes, we'll see if Andreas can shed more light on the program, maybe share how it's useful with his keyboard 👍

I also want to have a better look at JJazzLab, it looks promising too.

Hi Chris,
I don't have any audio recordings. But I think I should be able to make it. Please tell me a song you would like to hear.

I mainly play accompaniments that nimbu calculated from Midi files. I do this directly in nimbu, as nimbu plays all tensions and time signature and tempo changes.

No, nimbu also has a Yamaha style export to play song related styles directly i.e. without nimbu on a Yamaha keyboard.

Hi Andreas

I would be happy with any song someone else made into a midi and then let Nimbu analyze the midi and create an even better song  ..if we could listen to the original midi and then listen to how the software makes it so much better ?? That would be awesome if you could do that!! Any suitable midi will do!!

Hi Chris,
Nimbu doesn't make better music than a midi file. The point is that the accompaniment of midi files play tensions to the chords. They are fixed, i.e. they cannot be played with chords. nimbu converts these accompaniments from notes to chord scales. I can play these song related accompaniments the same way as I play styles on an arranger. I can switch to chords to play any harmony I want. Or edit my accompaniment or set my own sections. I just enjoy making music this way. That' it.

Andreas

I don't see that you can make a style with this program. The program just edits a style and/or midi file.

I think you can do the same things with the keyboard already.

I had the same reflex, when I saw demos for the first time. I thought I was listening to midi files, because there was almost no difference.
But what you hear are styles played with chords. If you play these styles with the wrong chords, it sounds terrible. It's like playing wrong chords to a melody. That's because your song-related styles play tensions like the melody.
When you play chords to a song, those chords are part of a key. This means that all 7 notes of the key can be played in addition to the chords you play, at least melodically. Simply put, this applies to every degree of the key. If you keep that in mind, it's only a small step to chord scales and tensions, which I didn't know before either.
Backing bands play tensions. Just like backing bands in midi files do. Just like Nimbu styles do. However you can also flatten the tensions in Nimbu to chords or arpeggios in order to play any desired harmony.

Andreas
