Greetings to All,

I'm new to this wonderfully helpful site, and new to the Yamaha DGX 670. As a singer-songwriter, I chose the DGX with the assumption of being able to record all parts of my songs—-instruments and vocals. I have a Shure SM58 plugged in (XLR to 1/4 inch jack, along with a transformer). The mic works just fine, but I haven't been able to figure out how to record vocals. I spent several hours on YouTube last night, trying in vain to find a tutorial that addresses this topic. Now I've begun to have a sinking feeling that the DGX doesn't have the capability to record vocal tracks. Any and all information will be much appreciated.

In order for the microphone signal to be recorded, the recording must be made as an audio file and not as a MIDI file. (Because your singing is not MIDI data.)

This is described in the Owner's Manual starting on page 75:
Recording Your Performance as Audio (USB Audio Recorder)

The recording is in WAV format. This format has first-class CD quality, but results in very large files. To obtain smaller files, you can convert these files to MP3 format using a PC.

Hello Frieda

Using your Owner's Manual go to page 75 for instructions about recording your music and vocals at the same time as a WAV file.

You can then use the free program called Audacity found here:

https://www.audacityteam.org/download/

This program is used to turn a WAV file into an MP3 file, which is much small in size and still sounds great.

Thank you, KurtAgain and DrakeM! While leafing through the Owner's Manual, searching for a solution, I had actually seen the instructions on page 75. But because I had already begun to doubt that vocals could be recorded on the DHX, the information "did not compute". As it happens, I already have Audacity on my PC. And now I can carry on with getting my vocals recorded. Many thanks to the two of you.

Hello! Thank you for the instructions, but can the keyboard read MP3 files?

Hi Brad,

No, the DGX-670's USB Audio Player/Recorder only supports WAV files (44.1 kHz, 16-bit, stereo), not MP3 files.

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)
