Hi,
I am wondering if it is possible to send PM (personal messages} to individual members as we were able to do in the previous version of this Forum.
I don't see that link under individual member's names anymore.
Thanks,

Mark

DrakeM

I miss that option as well.

maarkr

I can see my inbox messages and sent messages from the previous forum but no way to send a new one.

Yes I also was wondering why this feature is missing. It can be very useful. You will find it on most other forums.

Dear Members,

Thank you for your valuable feedback. The option in question has been temporarily disabled to prevent potential spam and the distribution of illegal content. However, I will certainly take your suggestion into consideration, and it's possible that in the future, this feature may be enabled for more experienced members.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

I agree with the comments here. Private messaging is a vital part of forum communication in my opinion. I hope that can be implemented here.

Dear Members,

Doing what these admins have done to get this site up and running is no easy task. I think they did a great job, and I am thankful that they took the time to do it. Building websites is no easy task and making changes although they seem simple enough, can take a lot of work to make happen.
Give the guys time, they will get it just the way it was before, but it won't happen overnight.

Thanks for your patience!

Rick D.

Hello Alex,
I have been on many forums in my time. Some small and some large. I even ran my own forum until earlier this year. All have had a Private message system and have never had the problems you suggest. Spammers will go for the whole site not the messaging system. If anyone did get an unsavoury message then just report it to a moderator and the sender should be removed from the site. I have had many private conversations with members who felt they would not always understand the answers they got posing on the general forum so this system was a great help to them.

Experienced in what?

EileenL

Yes Del,
I found this a strange answer. Most PM's are sent to help people.

Bill

It does not bother me either way, but I always smiled when some would ask for something that obviously related to something that was copyrighted,  people would always respond by replying "I have sent you a PM"

The questionable copyrighted stuff was kept in the Members Only section.

EileenL

Yes Bill I agree but it could be useful in other ways.

Not always the case, and if it was copywrite stuff it's usually a link off the forum that has been put in the message as opposed to something inserted in the messaging window, also you can send other members of your choice your email address in private so you don't reveal it on the boards which later could get spammed or hacked.
This is the only forum I know/or belonged to that has not got that facility, and at the end of the day it is a communication tool and that is what a forum is about communicating and the linking with people/members of like minded interests. To be honest I can't see a problem having it we had it before, maybe there is a genuine/valid reason why the admin don't want to implement it and if that is the case then they should be open and honest and say why.

I think a sensible compromise needs to emerge.
As an example... Many months ago, I helped a member whose very elderly Father living in Northern Ireland was having great difficulty understanding his new PSR SX 700.

He just couldn't get his head round it with the numerous fruitless posts going back and forwards. It was too technical for him.

So I PM'd his Son (the member) to ask if he would like me to arrange to telephone his Father to guide him through it.

He was SO grateful for that and over the course of a 45 minute call, I managed to explain how to understand the problem he had. He was fine from then on.

So much more helpful than dozens of meanlingless forum posts which he simply did not understand, and a better use of my time, and no doubt his.

Just basic human kindness to another music lover. I think many of us will drop out if the PM facility is not there. All other forums have it, and it's an easy and effective means of communication.

To suggest that a PM is only used for nefarious means is pretty shaky, but ok, some may do it I suppose.

No Registered Member would ever even want to share copyrighted material, and as Drake quite correctly pointed out, such music was only available to Charter Registered members only with it being clear that such material was not to be shared.

Just my thoughts on it.
No Yamaha keyboards at present.

Technics SX-PR900 Digital Ensemble Piano
Lenovo M10 Android tablet with Lekato page turner

Upcoming Updates:

Personal Messages
Will be enabled soon for advanced members only.

How/What/Who do you class as advanced members?
This sounds very discriminatory and it should be for everyone.

That is basically how Joe ran the MEMBERS ONLY section of the old forum. You either Supported the forum with a Purchase or you had wait until you made 150 posts at the forum to be give access.

Drake

EileenL

When I first joined years ago I don't remember having to Waite or pay to use PM system Also we were able to upload to the forum
but people took advantage in uploading Yamaha copy write packs and they should have been removed by Moderators as soon as they appeared. I know many members were cross at this as they had all paid for there's and so reported it to Yamaha. Shortly after this we were no loner allowed to upload even the smallest of files here.
This no longer should effect the PM system though.

Yes  Drake that was a board for members only having access to those boards after 150 posts or support buy purchasing  something like styles who were loyal and frequent and posted in the forum and I understand that, and I am not opposed to that,  that is  not the but we are referring to, we are referring to having the standard Private Messenger within the forum like most forums have which is available from the day of joining, and a method of contacting and being contacted privately, having PM does not allow you to have access to restricted other boards it is a totally separate thing [/quote]
