why not keep all of my expansion packs right on my desktop instead of using YEM

Could someone please be so kind as to explain to me  why I should not just download all of the free expansion packs and then unzip them and keep them in folders on my pc desktop?  Then I could just select one and transfer it to my usb flash drive and open the expansion pack and use it from the usb drive.  Thank you in advance.

Have you tried? I guess you didn't. Because even if it would work, it makes no sense:

1. Usually we don't wish to have complete pack(s) on keyboard (we only select what we really like in the pack)
2. Usually we wish to create custom pack which contains the best from more than one pack
3. We wish to keep track of the size of such custom pack.

That is, what you wish to have is multiple install packs (needed to be created with YEM) inside desktop folder and then you just pick the pack that you wish to use on keyboard, right?
But the thing is, you can not use pack directly from USB: it needs to be installed on keyboard!

At least to me, it makes no sense to create multiple install packs and keep them somewhere on PC. By using YEM, we can simply create single install pack that contains everything we need and like (within limit of keyboard memory) and install that single pack.
