Guitar voices

in my sx900 the voices in the OTS are usually much too quiet. but when I use a guitar voice, I have to tap the keys very hard because otherwise no sound comes out. so I always miss a number of notes. Anyone have an idea to solve this?

The simplest solution is not to leave the Style Volume at 100, but to reduce it (e.g. to 80). You can increase the Master Volume a little to compensate this. This gives you more "power" for the OTS voices.

Of course, you can also change the OTS settings of the styles at any time if necessary, e.g. increase the volume of the OTS voices. If a voice is still too quiet at a part volume of 127, you can usually increase the volume in Voice Edit ("Voice Edit > Common > Volume"). You can also use the "Touch Sensitivity" parameters ("Depth" and "Offset") there to ensure that the voice is played louder with the same playing strength.

The style must then be re-saved to save the OTS changes.


Alternatively, you could work with Registrations, then the style does not have to be changed/re-saved, but you can memorize everything directly in the registrations. The global Style Volume is also memorized here (and restored when the relevant registration is loaded). You can also use registrations to assign insert effects to individual keyboard voices. This also allows you to make a voice significantly louder if necessary, for example.

I totally agree with Chris.

My start-up registration fixes the Style volume at 70. This way I have a good balance between accompaniment tracks and OTS.

And, again as Chris mentioned, often I need to increase the volume OTS voices by increasing their level in Voice Edit.
In a few cases it is not enough, and I need to assign a Compressor effect that allows to increase very significantly the volume of a voice (sometimes I do the same for weak Style tracks voices).

I think that your keyboard stroke is much too soft. You can try to train yourself to press the keys harder. This may take some time (Weeks, Months?).

Or you can change the touch response settings (Reference Manual, page 37).

I don't think changing the volume levels will be enough.
