Is there anyone out there that can explain to me in plain English how to download these free expansion packs and then install them onto my psr sx600.  I have searched and searched and tried and tried to no avail.  The videos that I have watched were simply to vague.  I just need some simple instruction in plain English please.  It cannot possibly be as hard as it appears to be.  I am a retired Nuclear Engineer so I know that it is not because I am just plain stupid.  I suggest that there MUST be a simple way to accomplish this.  I am about to give up on using any Expansion packs.  PLEASE someone give me some good instruction that is understandable.  Thank you in advance.

1. Download Yamaha Expansion Manager v2.10 (YEM) and install it.
2. Get the Instrument Info File (*.n27) from your keyboard -Reference Manual, p.21
3. Add the Instrument Info File into YEM -Expansion Manager Manual, p.8 (this process is necessary so YEM knows for which keyboard to create install pack later).
4. Import expansion pack(s) into YEM -Expansion Manager Manual, p.6 (expansion packs have *.ppf and *.cpf file suffix. For everything to work as expected, make sure packs are made for SX600).
5. Click on your keyboard in YEM (below "Install Target" area on the left side).
6. Select the pack(s) that you wish to have in pack install file -Expansion Manager Manual, p.9
7. If you select more than one pack, then make sure that it doesn't exceed 100MB memory of your keyboard. You can see that info on top of the YEM window (select "Voice Wave Size" there).
8. Click on "Save as Pack Install File" button on the top right side of YEM -when you're asked where to save, choose *.ppi or *.cpi file type.
9. After created Install File is saved on your (USB) drive, make sure again that file size is less than 100MB.
10. Install the file on your keyboard -Reference Manual, p.20 (this process can take a minute or so and after that keyboard will restart).

That's the shortest I could do. For the rest, keep manuals by hand  :)

Hi Pickheaven01,

You can download the current free expansion packs from Yamaha here:
>>> https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/contents/keyboards/vse/index.html

If you click on one of these packs on the linked site, you will see whether an SX600 version of that pack is available. After downloading, unpack the relevant zip file on your computer and import the included .cpf pack file into the YEM, as already described by Bogdan.

By the way, most of these packs are in protected .cpf format and can therefore only be used on models for which Yamaha offers a version. In contrast, there are also packs in the non-protected .ppf format. These can basically be used on all YEM compatible models. However, it may happen that certain content (e.g. included registration banks) is not compatible with all models.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Greetings from California to BogdanH and Overover.  Thank you both soooooo much for the (finally) clear, simple to understand instructions.  My frustration level was much too high.  I am happy to report to you that your instructions were excellent and I achieved tremendous success.   FINALLY !!!!  Since followng your instructions I now have 485 NEW Styles.  I am a happy man!  Thanks again and best to you both.  Your help and time spent are sincerely appreciated.  I hope I can return the favor someday even though I am still a rookie.  LOL !!
