On my sx900 I have a foot pedal (switch) plugged into FOOT PEDAL 2 assigned to turning vocal harmonies on or off.  I have a sustain pedal plugged into FOOT PEDAL 1. I can't seem to get it to work. I've changed polarity and tried several things. No Luck. Can you help?
Thanks

A bit more information would help in diagnosing possible problems.
Is this a piano type pedal or just a switch? What make is it, and what kind of connector does it have?
What are you trying to sustain - best set rh voice to piano and use that to check.
Take following steps to check settings, and then the check pedals.
First Check pedal 1 is properly assigned to sustain (it appears to be from the pic of the screen)
If it is properly assigned then set pedal 2 also to sustain, and try using the pedal you already have plugged in to pedal 2. Any switch type pedal should work sustain, even if it is not a piano type. If that works sustain, try it in pedal 1 position.
Then try your other sustain pedal in position 2.
Tell us what happens. This will help us deduce if the problem is with the setting, the keyboard or the pedals or maybe the connector.

Thanks for the suggestions!
The sustain pedal has a 1/4"plug. Brand is SOVVID (compatible with Yamaha keyboards) I did what you suggested and switched them. The Sustain Pedal now controls the vocal harmony when plugged into 2 but the switch type pedal does nothing inserted into channel 1. It seems that none of the assignables work in channel 1. Is it possible that channel 1 is defective?

Assign channel 2 to sustain and see if it works with both or either pedal. If both work sustain that confirms the problem is in channel 1.
It could be the socket rather than the channel.
