Bonus playlist - using just as registrations

I've seen many people posting about issues with the Bonus playlist from Yamaha.  I've had the same issues and figured out a solution that works for me.  While I can't reference a particular post on here that pointed me in the direction - it was the cumulation of reading on here plus YT videos - and I'm super grateful for all of that.

In short - I've given up on the playlist itself and I just use the registrations.

I simply copied the registrations themselves from the USB to the User section in a new folder I called Bonus List, then I removed the USB.  Once the indexing caught up, I could search within the registrations sections for any of the songs.  If I go to the Playlist section there is nothing there.  This works for me because I'm not gigging.  Personally, I start with the sheet music to a particular song, then look for a registration to go with it as a starting point, then adjust to my taste.

Fred pointed out that if there are any styles that came with the bonus playlist, those would be on the USB and the registration would go looking for them, and not find them.  (big thank you to Fred for all of his contributions and help!).  So far,  I haven't been through every song, but so far I haven't found anything that doesn't work.

Here's the video that others have linked to that Yamaha did on getting the registrations - https://youtu.be/Tqa7x62Zt4I

For me, the breakthrough moment was realizing that the playlist is simply a list referencing registrations.  If I have the registrations themselves, I don't need a separate list, meaning I don't need the playlist function.

This has allowed me to avoid the issues of which USB is in 1 or 2, having it out because I'm using a different one etc.

Hope this is helpful to others.

Have to admit, I don't find the Playlist function of great use either, and prefer to just have my registrations in specific folders that I can easily recall.  As everything gets listed alphabetically, it's the way to go, in my humble opinion.

I think a lot of people simply download the playlists simply because they are free and miss a lot of the features where they are more useful than a straight forward link to a registration.

1.  You can use them for linking registrations to specific Music Books without duplicating registration (which makes the Keyboard Search feature less effective.)
2.  Some people use registration banks with many different song selection (ie 1 song per button) and find it difficult remember where the specific song is located.  The playlist allows you to have an entry in the playlist for each of the individual reg songs, making it very easy.
3.  You can preselect which registration button is automatically loaded at song selection.
4.  You can decide to automatically load say a text file when the playlist song is selected.
5.  Use them as a PLAYLIST ie a list of tunes to play, rather than having them in alphabetical order. This saves you from having to put 001, 002 etc in front of the registration names.
6. Use the feature as an additional string to your bow. You don't have to use them all the time. Having several methods of locating reg file is much better than relying on one.

For the past 50 years owning arrangers I always edited Styles when required and saved via Style Creator, they always worked very well.
Now using DGX670 I have to use RGTs because the Style Editing in DGX is limited.
As we know the problem with Registrations is Styles used, we have to remember can't be moved.
