Hi Dusan

No, the G2 does not have any hardrives, it has 15GB of internal memory assigned for user use. The G1 had 58GB.
It has 3 USB sockets so you can connect your own storage, however since the slots are not predefined you have to be carefull to not have more than one connected at startup.

Hi Dusan

To be honest I don't use the slot underneath the keyboard. It has a cover with a very small screw. It is difficult to access. The largest USB stick that I use is a 32GB one, which I find more than adequate. The biggest problem is that the larger the USB you tend to become lazy with your housekeeping and store more and more duplicate files (in other words - JUNK)

The big space hog (waster) is digital audio -- WAV and/or MP3 backing tracks.

I have used about 12GBytes of the internal USER drive in my G1 -- mostly digital audio. 32GByte USB jump drives are big enough for me.  ;D

All the best -- pj

I fitted a 64Gb USB to the underside port of my Genos2 to act as storage for my Audio files and also a backup for my user section. I did the same with my Genos1 and it worked very well. I only store things that I know I will use on this and everything is stored in folders so nice and tidy.

Yamaha has a printed list of USB flash drives that they have tested so when my Genos2 arrived in November I purchased a SAMSUNG MUF-256AB/AM FIT Plus 256GB - 400MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive which was on their list for $21. Yamaha says that 256GB is the most you can use in any one of the Genos2 USB slots. It's one of those snub-nose flash drives which is what I wanted to buy to make sure it fit in the compartment underneath. I also plan on only using it for audio and that way regardless of where I store everything else, in (Internal Memory, Flash 2 or Flash 3 slots), it will always boot up first as USB 1, so that way I won't have to worry about any USB number switches or conflicts unless I accidently forget and leave a flash drive plugged into one of the other slots and then boot up.

Whay this can be a problem if I acidantly forget Flash drive pluget into slot and boot instrument up? On my old Tyros 5 I dont haw any problems with flash drive and boot instrument every time with drive plugget in slot....

The following was copied from The Genos2 Owner's manual on Page 115:

If two or more USB flash drives are connected to the three
[USB TO DEVICE] terminals when the instrument is turned
on, the drive letters of those drives will be random. This
results in non-reproducible file paths such as for Registration
Memory and Playlist, and the data will not work properly.

I have a 64GB USB stick permanently connected to the slot at bottom. Had it the same way at Genos1 as well.
There is no problem with driveletters when startup as long as you dont have any other plugged in at same time when start up.
USB plugged in under the cover at bottom will stay as USB1 as long as no other USB is connected before G2 is powered on and up and running.
When plug in USB at top after startup, then it will be USB2.

However, if USB at the top is plugged in at startup, this will be USB1, and the one beneath will be USB2.
So i.e. if run a OS update, there is no need to remove the one at bottom as long as the USB stick with the programupdate file is connected at top when start up / power on.

This solution has worked flawlessly at both G1 and G2 since day 1 when I got my first Genos. :)
The only thing to remember, is to remove the top USB stick before startup the keep the one at bottom as USB1.  8)

Yes I work exactly the same and have no problem at all as I never switch off with a USB still connected to front or back port. Also find 64Gb space more than enough.

I can attest to Yamaha's claim that the USB drive letter assignments can be random. I have another USB 256GB flash drive that I plug into the top and use to access my own styles and registrations. Several times I've forgotten to take it out before booting back up and the top one has still booted up as USB 2. There was only one time that it booted up as USB 1 and I immediately shut down, took it out, rebooted and then plugged it back in. So, my question is when I need to update the firmware/OS in the future, if it doesn't see the update during bootup from my top USB slot because it identifies it as USB 2, couldn't I just copy the data through Genos2 to the other USB underneath and then reboot?

Flatlinersholger

Hello,

you cannot copy the firmware file within the Genos2. But you could of course do this on the computer, but then it would be pointless as you would then have to remove the stick at the bottom anyway.

I also use the lower stick like a permanently installed hard drive with 128GB

Greetings, Holger

Firmware update is something that we do in average only once or twice during the ownership and so removing the bottom stick (in such special case) shouldn't be a problem.

Hi
It is not nessesary to remove the 'bottom stick' to perform OS / firmware upgrade.
(Well, if you don't have any other USB stick and it's the only one you have to use, then it's another case)

The upgrade file must of course be downloaded from web, unzip archive and *.prg file has to be copied into the root of the USB stick by use of the computer, and then put USB stick in to top USB-slot and then start Genos1 or 2 as described in the manual.
