Hello
One question about style creator and drum editing. I want to edit a style that has snare drum in all A-D variations, I want snare drum side kick, e.g. in main A. If I do that I get the snare drum side kick in all variations A to D. Is this possible without re-recording this? Thanks!

hello AIS,
I'm a little confused by your question...
When you record or edit Drum channel in Main A variation, then Drum channels in other variations are not are not affected.

If snare drum is in all variations, but you only wish to have it in Main A, then simply remove snare drum in variations B-D. You can do that by actually removing snare drum note in Drum channel for each variation (B-D), or to do it faster: you can remove snare drum only in Drum channel of Main B and then copy Main B Drum channel (which now doesn't contain snare drum) into Drum channel of C and D variation.

Hello.

Bogdan is right - I'm in doubt what you are asking too.
I understand you want to replace the conventional snare to a cross stick or a rim shot (you called snare side kick).
Go to style creator, select mainA, go to Rhy1 or Rhy2, click on StepEdit. Now you'll see all drum notes. Look for the snare: generally is G0, D1, or E1 (most common is D1). Put the cursor on D1 and replace the note for a cross stick (usually C#1) or Rimshot (usually Bb0) if my memory is good. Repeat if for MainB, MainC, MainD, FillinA... Than save the style.

I have three tutorials about style creator at my YouTube channel (links below my name) - take a look on the fist one, for sure I did something using StepEditor.

Ok?

Hi
I see that I asked my question a little confusing, :-[ but now I understand how to do this. I'm probably a little too stuck on how I could do this on the Korg OS. But I'm learning eventually and thank you for all the help I get here on the forum. Thanks!

The « assembly » tool allows you to copy any of the parts of a style,  to another part of the same or another style. That means that if you are satisfied with a drum part for mainA, it's possible to copy it to mainB, main C, mainD. But it is the full part (snares, cymbals, hihat....) which is copied and it's not possible to only filter the snares.

I highly recommend StyleMagic v3.5.3, its supports the Genos2 and will run on Windows 10 and 11.  The demo download is still v3.5.1 so you might contact Thomas to let him know he needs to post the v3.5.3 demo so you can try it out before you buy.  StyleMagic has an excellent Drum Editor that will change the drum tuning and other parameters for the whole style in just a few minutes.  There is also an excellent Voice Editor as well.

Although StyleMagis is a good tool, I see no reason to buy it until someone isn't fully familiar with what can be done on keyboard itself (with Style Creator).
Speaking for myself, I create styles from scratch and at doing that, I never had a need for additional software. Style Creator isn't perfect, but I think it has a bad reputation without a real reason.

Just sharing my opinion,

StyleMagis is a great tool. However, it is a bit clumsy and unclear when processing notes. If we have to use computer tools, I recommend XGWorks and you can quickly and transparently do everything you need with it. It's a pity that Yamaha neglected the development of XGWorks.

Support for Genos2 is the only thing... I think.  I have v3.5.0, and don't need an update anytime soon.

Joe H ,
Thanks for your reply
Searched for Genos 2 at midisoft.pl and got this page in results

Notice that as well as Genos 2 support
'MIDI event shifting functionality' is new - any idea what that is?

MIDI event shifting sounds like it might the same as "Groove" in Style Creator.  In other words it shifts notes and/or MIDI controller messages forward or backward for special effects.  I might contact him myself and ask and to get the v3.3.5 demo.

UPDATE: I contacted Thomas and asked him to post the StyleMagic v3.5.3 demo and asked for an explanation of how the MIDI event shifting works.  I suspect it is just shifting of notes.

Thomas responded to my inquiry, here is his response:

Please, wait a month, there will be a bigger update.

He didn't explain the MIDI event shifting function. So... we will have to wait a month to see what new updates he implements.
