Search function not working anymore for Songs and Styles in Genos1

Since a few days the SEARCH function does not work anymore (Genos1) for Songs and Styles.
With the input of a Song title all Songs found are shown on the screen; however if I select one of these Songs, the screen indicates: "file not found, or file name is inappropriate"
All the Songs found are in the USB database.
The same applies to Styles.
Everything worked fine for the last 5 years.
Any advise or idea what is the reason of this defect?

Hi @Rien5,

I suspect that the USB stick used contains a lot of files. Then it takes a long time for the keyboard to complete the current search index. If you haven't already done so, connect the USB stick in question and give the (switched on) keyboard plenty of time (several hours if necessary) to update the search index.

Basically, I recommend only having the files you really need on your "main" USB stick. If, for example, all sorts of style collections from the Internet are also on the stick, it's no wonder that the automatic updating of the search index seems to take "forever".

Another possible reason that the search index could not be completed is that there is a defective/corrupt file on the USB stick, and the indexing stops as soon as this file is to be parsed. If files have been added to the stick recently, you could copy the files you actually need to another stick and test whether the indexing then works with this other stick.

For styles, multi pads and MIDI files, there is the (Windows) program "PSR Style/Pad/Midi Database" (current version is V5.1). This allows you to manage all your styles, multi pads and MIDI files on your PC. To quickly find faulty files, add the "Errors" column and read the relevant USB stick. It is important that the "Incl. Subfolders" checkbox is ticked.

Hope this helps!

Hello Chris.

I am wondering if you can describe what the search index is about? ie: why we have it, how to trigger it, expected results, what if it does not index and how would you know that it did not index, etc.

I have looked in the manual, googled & utube but don't seem to find anything unless perhaps it is called something else?

       Thanks in advance.    Regards!

Hello :) The keyboard is basically a computer, and all computers are indexing files. I don't know much about data devices, but I suspect that this process takes more time on our keyboards, the CPU on a keyboard is not as powerful as on a computer. I have also experienced that the search function didn't work. But when I gave the keyboard some time all started working again. I have disabled the Auto Power Off function so that the keyboard can be on for hours, we don't really need to turn it off. However, I always turn my keyboards off at night, and when I am not in the house.

Hello Toril.

I had assumed that the keyboard indexing was different than that of computers simply because it is a keyboard. Guess I have learned something today and now I understand.

I have always set my keyboard "Auto Power off" to 30 minutes and once a month set the value to "Disable" for a period of 1 day to allow indexing, not really knowing
why, but because it was mentioned in the forum posts and also because I wanted to see this indexing message.

   Thanks you
