Master EQ settings for GNS-MS01

Hi,

I've been asked this a few times personally, but I didn't have the GNS-MS01 speaker set connected to my Genos 2 by default (using HS8/HS10W at home). I only use the GNS-MS01 when visiting somewhere to play together. At this moment I'm on holiday and took the Genos 2 and the GNS-MS01 set with me to have some fun there. During playing I've optimized the Master EQ setting for my GNS-MS01 set, so why not share it to the rest of Genos 2 owners  :)

I'm surprised to see that Yamaha put default settings for HS-7 and HS-8 in the Master EQ settings, but nothing there for the standard GNS-MS01 speakerset for specific both of the Genos models.

Of course an EQ setting is a bit of a personal taste. But this is how I like the sound. Try it out with your Genos2/GNS-MS01 combination and let me know what you think about this setting  ;).

I am waiting for my GNS-MS01 to arrive, hopefully soon and I will certainly try out your settings which are much appreciated Robbie.

Will let you know what I think when I've tried the EQ out.

Hi Robbie --

Thanks for the post. There are quite a few people with Yamaha HS-7/HS-8, and I'll bet they would like to see the EQ settings.  :)

Always curious how Yamaha does things...

Take care -- pj

The first five settings are for the Genos2 MS01 speakers. The rest are as titled.

To be honest, for the HS8/HS10W I just use the FLAT setting. The characteristics of these monitors are just perfect for me. No modification needed  :).

Hi,
....

Of course an EQ setting is a bit of a personal taste. But this is how I like the sound. Try it out with your Genos2/GNS-MS01 combination and let me know what you think about this setting  ;).

This is how graphical interface looks for your EQ (this is pure info):
First plugin test:

Second plugin test:

Now, depending on what advanced technique Yamaha uses for the each EQ frequency point in the graphic, the result seems to be quite equal, with some small differencies. If the EQ will boost bass and high as in first picture, I think is a little to much for me. The second is a little bit not so aggressive, IMO.

... and exactly as you said, perfect for you, not for all.

BTW, this is a little bit strange, because these EQs depends on a lot of things: the size of the place you sing, the material of the walls, what material is the floor (carpet or ceramics, or whatever)... All these materials, size, the shape of the place, all these influences the sound. And what is also important, the audio system you use! (PA system, studio monitors, etc)
My opinion!

Thanks for the analysis valimaties. The graphical interface doesn't tell me anything unfortunately. Unless it will be compared to frequency measurements/characteristics of the GNS-MS01 set to see if my hearing is correct on the low, mid and hi corrections ;).

The GNS-MS01 satellite speakers are build from plastic. And that causes some resonance and tinny sound in the mid range. Take in mind that my hearing is personally sensitive in the mid range, that explains my personal my dip in the 4KHz range. And then of course I like the low and bright hi-fi  sound (the HS8 is very good in high frequencies I'm used to hear), explaining the low and high amplification in my EQ settings.

I published it just to help some people on their way. I'm often asked for EQ settings of microphones (that never makes sense as microphone specifications and voices itself differ so much), instruments, etc. But in this case the keyboard and the GNS-MS01 combination is the same for everyone. The room is the only variable environment in this.

It seems that people are always very happy with the sound quality I deliver on live performances. I just wonder how other people like this suggested EQ settings for their GNS-MS01 set. Just like Yamaha gives us some default EQ settings.
