Hi
Haven't worked with Yamaha since the good old organ days, feel a bit out of date. I am trying to update my Genos2 following the instructions. Brand new USB stick, downloaded the file GENOS2SETUP.PRG which is the only file in the usb stick, inserted into USB to Device. After the message searching for files, I get the message "Please insert the install media". Why can't it find the file? Must the new usb be formatted in the Genos, or what am I doing wrong? I have downloaded the update twice, I don't think it has any errors. Anyone?? Thank you
Regards AIS

Gunnar Jonny

Power off Genos,
Be sure it's the UNZIPPED xxx.prg file that is in root of the USB stick.
Put it in USB port at top of the keyboard, press start / stop button and hold it when power on.
Then it should find the file and then just follow the messages on the screen.

If no success, download file again, and unzip. Maybe the file already downloaded has been corrupted in any way?

Btw,
if unsure of your stick formatted, it does no harm to reformat it either at G or PC before next attempt.

Sometimes this happens when the USB stick is not recognized correctly. Pleas use another (older) USB stick with less capacity e.g. 8 or 16 GB

AIS

Thank you! The problem was solved. It looks like the Genos couldn't handle the new 128GB stick. Found one with 64GB, used the same file, installed without problems.

I remember once I tried to update my Genos and I had problems getting the keyboard to read the USB,but the USB had other things on it.I  formatted the USB in the keyboard then reloaded the  UNZIPPED update file to the USB and no problems after that.Always best to use a USB formatted first

I don't think the 128GB USB is the problem, as I used the 128GB stick to update the OS, and it worked.

Always format your USB on Genos This is Yamaha's advice.

Good advice, however, I've never format USB sticks on my keyboards, always used PC, and never had any problems. :)

Same for me. I think what's important is that it must be formatted in FAT32 (not NTFS or some exotic format). But Eileen's advice is good in case of any troubles.

I actually formatted a 64gb usb stick today on my pc and it did not work on my genos 2 so I formatted it on the Genos it subsequently then worked, normally it works formatting on the pic but on this occasion it did not.

If anyone have missed it, there is a USB device compatible list for G2 that can be downloaded.
Those USB sticks (or similiar) should work well and be pretty safe:

You would think, *but* there's a current draw for each USB stick; and some larger ones from some brands *do* exceed the current draw allowance; similar thing with the PSRsx600, there are a couple of 64GB sticks that work, but for safety I used a 32gb on the PSRsx600 because my master 256gb stick well exceeds the current draw.

In other words, the 256gb stick works on every other keyboard in here (sandisk, I usually use Kingston but this is what the Mrs bought me) except the sx600 and DGX670; however I can totally forsee *some* brands of 256gb and yes, even some 128gb USB drives could exceed the supplied current draw; but unlikely.

The USB128GB I used was straight out of the box. The only thing I did was a check to see that it was empty. I didn't do any formatting in the Genos. Next time I use it I'll try to format first.

Hi AIS,

It could be due to the (wrong) format of the USB stick. New 128 GB sticks often have the "exFAT" format. However, Yamaha keyboards are only compatible with FAT32 format sticks. The easiest (and best) option would be to format the stick directly on the keyboard (in "Menu > Utility > Storage"). Here you just have to be careful not to accidentally format the internal User drive. ;)

To check the current format of the 128 GB stick, you can also connect it to the PC and call up the properties of the USB drive there.
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)
