How can Rimmers possibly reduce their price by £1000 on a brand new product which has only been out just over a week and what must be the markup on a Genos 2.

JohnS (Ugawoga)

All dealers are fighting for sales and trying to give good prices and good part ex, I won't name the company but they gave me two offers and their best offer was £100 more than the dealer I have chosen, and I have a better delivery date, I am happy with the offer I got for my T5 and it is a significant upgrade for me so it's a no brainer, but I can see why some Genos1 owners are a bit miffed, I felt the same back then from a T5 to a G1, but I see the vast difference between the T5 & G1 now and I think the gap between the G1 & G2 could be much the same way.
Just go and Buy the G2 you know it makes sense :P

The reality of buying a G2 is this
As previously mentioned dealers are working in two ways, price without p/x you can get a G2 from multiple sources for £3999.0 in the UK.
Others are selling at full price as they are maximizing profit. Ac hamilton were offering a trade in price of £2399 but this is now amended  to £2799 because they have a glut of used Genos1 and no the price of G1 will plummet.
So here lies the problem say you take 50 sales with a p/x the profit and more is in the p/x and then they will have to sell them. Great for those moving from tyros etc.
Not so great for a G2 owner who may have taken a 20% hit in one week. Then there will be the residual fallout, the smaller dealers will continue to undercut to get rid of assets devaluing the keyboard further.
I see Yamaha taking action on this. For now though you can buy A G2 from europe for £3400 if you the inclination to do this.
I expect most dealers to start turning away some models, Also their will be a shortage in speakers so expect to pay top dollar for those.

I would'nt have thought  that there should be any shortage of speakers as many will have their GNS-MS01 speakers and can use these for the Genos2,plus many choose to use different speakers.Perhaps owners trading in from lower models will need the Genos speakers.

Scan computers in UK are selling the Genos 2 for £3999 inc VAT and you can get it the next day, great if you don't want to part ex and buy outright.

Yamaha has to be carefully about this because they have already been ruled to have been price fixing in the past by they UK regulator the Competition and Markets Authority in 2019 and 2020.

I know other ones instrumental manufactories ( Korg ,Casio, and Roland) and music retailers got fined for price fixing. In fact there is a class action for people who brought Yamaha keyboard in the past

Bonners price is now £4699.
Go in & chat with Tony, they may price match, particularly if you've been buying from them for decades.

The problem is established dealers will get stock first, and in large amounts those who take P/X will have most of profit in stock.
Smaller companies smaller amounts but need to move that stock quick or face a bill they can`t pay.
Talking to Scan they said they hadn`t experienced anything like this price war.
So those without p/x don`t have the possibility of repairs and lock there profit.
Those who do, face a big concern on shifting the used Stock.
A great time to buy a used G1 expect second hand value to go below 2k.used korg pA5X have dropped too low in my opinion
Tyros are gonna get a poor p/x remember the last ones were made over 10 years ago.
Yamaha testing the market as usual.
