Hello

Remember IDC?  Internet Direct Connect. I just found a folder full of old styles I purchased when I had a Tyros 3. It was awkward, very cumbersome, and extremely slow.  But that's one way we got content for our instruments back then.  I played a bunch of these styles on my Genos tonight. They sounded great!!  But then they should. These were Yamaha's premium styles then. I remember later on Yamaha started offering other third party styles on the IDC.  It's weird..........these styles play fine but their titles show up as a number code instead of words.  Anyways.......these styles should help keep me busy until it's Tyros 2 time!!!  -charley

Hi Charley,

I recommend using the "PSR Style Database" PC (Windows) program by Peter Wiezba (current version 4.11):
>>> https://wierzba.homepage.t-online.de/psd/psdmain.htm

Each style also has an internal name, independent of the current style file name. Open the folder with these IDC Styles in the mentioned program. Maybe you're lucky and the internal style names will help you.

By the way, you can display up to 20 columns with different style parameters/information at the same time.

P.S.
The program can also be started in MIDI file mode (via the corresponding desktop shortcut, which is automatically created during installation. There is also an internal file name there.

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Charley,

Also found a batch of IDC lurking in submerged files and if have time want to go through them on the genos and the dgx670..
Thanks for the reminder on the these styles as extra added material for my machines.

Hello!

I love little surprises like finding old styles that still work quite well after getting moldy and collecting dust over the years. Yamaha's and their customers insistence on backwards compatibility has kept me buying new boards as they are released.  Outside of having to convert some earlier Tyros styles for a newer model my old styles are still valid. Not having this backwards compatibility would be a game changer for me.

If Yamaha offered the things they left out that some expected on Genos 2, but all your old stuff wouldn't work anymore, would you still trade up?  -charley
