What Speakers Do You Use to Perform at home concerts with the Genos or Genos2?

I perform at different venues, but I also perform at home and need a good speaker system here as well. In fact, I need it even for my own satisfaction. Maybe that's self indulgence. On the other hand, why buy a keyboard for its sound if you don't give it the right speakers? Argh. I tried the Genos speakers with my original Genos years ago, and found them inadequate for my purpose, especially the piano, and I sold them with my Genos. Before I sold the Genos, I got a QSC cp8 powered monitor, and after I took it off the floor, it was better. But I still wasn't satisfied with the sound. At this point, I am still using it with my Fantom 08, but I feel unfulfilled with it. Now that I have ordered the Genos2, I am wondering what might be a good match if/when I recover from the cost of the keyboard, if I keep it.

I'm looking at an Electro-Voice Evolve 30m, which is extremely well reviewed and isn't hideously heavy if I need it for gigging. (My 79-year old husband has to shlep everything for me and us.) It also has at least 8 inputs, instead of the two I have with the QSC. The two input option makes life complicated when I play with others, unless I use a mixer too. The Bose L1 Pro 8 also has only two inputs, but it's lighter.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

Hi Beth
For Home use I use the following speakers they can pack a punch but I got them for more sound clarity from the keyboard.

2 x Genelec 8020 DPM & 7050 subwoofer but they came with the price tag of around £1600 expensive for me but relatively cheap for a high end speaker set up.

Hello Beth,
For home use I have KRK RP5's which are good and for gigs I previously used QSC K10's but just before Covid I purchased HK Audio POLAR10's after trying them against Bose, EV's and RCF's and the POLAR 10's blew all the others away and were the cheapest. In the UK they are priced at around £650 ($800) each. I use 1 of them for gigs up to 150 people and both for venues bigger than that. The subwoofer is 21 kgs and they come with carry bags. Each unit is 2Kw and 126db. They are brilliant.
Good luck with your choice.
Kind regards
Dave

Bose L1 Pro8

Produces excellent sound..easy to set up and lightweight   Bose S1 Pro sound great and a very lightweight.  I used two of these to get stereo.  I could easily use at home and cover 100 or so folks when gigging.

In the past I've used JBL, HK audio, Yamaha and others.  All good.

But the best sounds I've gotten out of my keyboards was using Bose.

For me, the goal is to keep growing/learning.

I use Yamaha DXR 8's for home  and Focal Alpha 50's monitors for mixing tied to Sonarworks room correction for computer again for mixing a fial song. I am still learning mastering.
Great sound all around
Genos, I7 computer 32 gig ram, Focusrite 6i6, Cubase controller, Focal Alpha Monitors, Yamaha DXR8 Speakers
Cubase 10, Sonarworks, Izotope.  Sampletank, Arturia and Korg software.  Now IK Mixbox

Granny,

I use two Bose L1 Compacts for the house, they are overkill for sure but I love the sound of Bose!

Thank you for all the suggestions and information. I didn't respond before because they came in overnight. I am on the West Coast of the US. I really appreciate it. And best of all, I don't feel so crazy anymore, investing in a better speaker system or even a PA system. Nice to be among people who care the same way about sound.

Hi Beth --

I kinda keep the volume down around the house. At home, I'm using Yamaha's new Stagepas 100BTR which bumped a Behringer 205D out of the way. Both have XLR OUT which lets me hit the church PA at the job. Both are sufficient as spot monitors in that application and at home. The Stagepas 100BTR is more accurate than the 205D; the 205D needs a bit of EQ to make acoustic instruments sound a bit more true.

My studio monitors are gen 1 (really old!) Mackie HR824s. I have Genos tied into them directly.

At the church, I occasionally use QSC K8 or Yamaha MSR100. Can't find the MSR100 anymore, but I still like its class AB amp.

Gettin' too old to heft and lift either the K8 or MSR100 into the air at church, so that's why I'm into the feather-weight class -- 12 pounds or so. Doctor has ruled out heavy lifting...  ???  :(

West coast, too -- pj

Thanks pjd. I feel for you having to lift all of that yourself. Glad you have found solutions that work. My solution is a husband. If I'm going to play a concert with lots of equipment -- two keyboards, etc. -- we're thinking of trying to find a guy or woman to help us.

hi Beth for home use i use GNS01 and Yamaha HS7 Speakers for gigs im going to be using either the new Yamaha Stage Pass or Yamaha DXR12

GrannyRocks

Oh that's interesting. The Stage Pass looks great but is heavy. I'm trying the Electro-Voice 30 m, but it I don't care for it, I'll look at your other suggestions. Thanks so much for writing.
