No, I am not disappointed! Are you kidding me?

The improvements made to the screen angle and brightness, buttons, faders and knobs are great.

And the sound is fantastic!

Finally there is a new nylon guitar. it is good.

I always hope SSS and balanced outputs. The KCS TV demo is not very good. They wanted to be the first.

john smies

the guy who stated this on hearing the demo from the Australian shop is spot on so far and I quote:

"...The piano, strings, and vocal patches are the same as the T4, the guitars and most of the drums are still the same as the PSR3000. Lol classic Yamaha fancy screen and lights with nothing really updated but the price...."

Possibly and hopefully for many among you here the official demo will offer better stuff......

Danny1972

So far I am keeping my G1.

I think we need Peter to rescue this and QUICK!!

Let's hope he doesn't have a good grasp of everything that's been changed.... It's been 6 years!

There has to be more than what this video has shown.

Rick D.

I will wait for Peter B's demo.

Yes there HAS to be.. all that I have just seen could have been easily done with an expansion pack update, eg, a v3

Yes. I am disappointed now. But let's wait for the official event!

Very disappointing.
Unless I am wowed in 15 minutes by something that this embargo breaking dude didn't show...

I'll probably save some money and be getting a P525 only then and mostly concentrate on my piano playing and use the CP88 with my Genos 1 for the odd performance which I think will be a bigger upgrade performance wise than just a Genos 2 on its own.

I've literally recorded songs with several of these demo-ed styles (Purple Rain / Final Countdown) which I bet are some of the best on board again that suit my music (like on the Genos 1). To my ears these styles don't sound better here, just slightly different drum fills. Same O/S. Mostly same sounds. I still have many extra sounds I never explored with the free YEM packages.
I can improve my own recordings by using external sounds or doing different things with the Genos 1. There is nothing new that inspires me to go with a Genos 2. I could consider some cheap Native Instrument stuff to add in the mix.

I hardly use the faders or the knobs once I have my registrations sorted, what is the point having lights on them? The screen I can improve by buying a small external display with an HDMI-VGA adapter.
It's just not worth upgrading by the looks of it.

For a couple of hundred pounds I can add so much other things in the mix that would be a bigger upgrade I think.
Without Music, Life would be a Mistake.

There could be a lot of things that were not shown in this video. More memory, SSS, new outputs, new style creator, ....

This time I broke the multi-year tradition where I did not pre-order a new flagship prior to release. I am glad!

Had it been two years since G1 release instead six, I would not be so disappointed with so few and mostly incremental changes.

The new styles shown are VERY song-specific. For a wedding/gigging musician I think this is a plus; for a singer/songwriter or home player - not so much. I much prefer universal/sparse styles which can be used for many arrangements. I do not need such specific orchestrations that are only suitable for Final Countdown or Don't Go Breaking My Heart, as an example.

I also think this release may show that, sonically-speaking, we are approaching the zenith - the changes are going to be infinitesimal from now on. That would be a good thing!

I completely agree, I have always said I couldn't see how Yamaha could improve on the sound of the G1 when the G1 is already a fabulous sounding instrument. I think this may be the perfect time to pick up a G1 !!!!

Oh dear. This is not going to go down well with some people :)

Re: sounds being same as T4 (etc.) ... I believe that in the new presentation video, they mentioned 2 or 3 completely new pianos, plus that the CTX grand now has more layers / elements.  Also they demo'd some new brass, new guitar, plus all the DX7 (FM) sounds.

I'm curious if they have new Tympani and Chimes, as the Montage does, and the Chimes in particular, on Genos 1, sound to me the same as chimes of Tyros 1!

The style dynamics control I think is the most interesting part.
Personally I would have liked to have seen a separate dial for that, placed near the style controls. At the moment, this is going to go completely unnoticed unless you know about it.
Like I said before, I hardly use the dials and sliders because I like to set things up with registrations beforehand.

Yes 3GB for user expansion.

The Martin Harris demo (41 min: https://youtu.be/f8k3Wu7iujc ) is fantastic.

AndrewKeyz

So you still need YEM. Bizarre...  ???

The 3GB expansion I don't think is enough. Easy to fill the 2GB on the Genos 1 with all the expansion packs.

I think you will find it has a lot more memory than that.

There's no FM-X engine....Thats MODX-Montage- Montage M... and far far from being able to edit them....

mixermixer

IMO the redesign doesn't warrant a 2nd gen monkier. this is more like a Genos 1.5 which is more like they fixed what was wrong with the first model. Nothing really made a significant jump like in the Tyros lineup. Most of the features introduced sounded like something that could have been done in an OS update and expansion packs.

Let's see what Peter B can cook up!

Me personally, when will genos 1 go down in price... I want to trade up my SX900...

pjd

I did my usual post-announcement summary here:

https://sandsoftwaresound.net/genos-2-is-here/

$6,599 USD (MSRP), $5,700 (MAP)

It's a nice bump to the generation 1 Genos. FM synthesis. CFX is upgraded and Genos2 got a few of the character pianos, Steinberg REVelation reverb.

Yamaha stopped short of cannibalizing other product lines. No new rotary speaker sim, no Bösendorfer, no VRM. Maybe that REVelation reverb might get ported to Montage M? It's probably space hungry (for impulse response data), so I hope the Montage M platform can handle it.

Definitely the "Version 2" incremental bump that I expected. Genos (gen 1) was a major technological step beyond T5. Yamaha is gonna ride the technology/profit curve for a while. No harm in that.

I wonder if the MIDI to Style application will interoperate with Genos1, 'specially since I will be keeping mine.  :D

All the best -- pj

P.S. That's real FM. Even the Genos (gen 1) SWP70 tone generators can do it. Yamaha kept FM locked up in G1.

Hello,
like i said, same plastic box with same casio buttons and keybed.
The only thing that will really make a difference will be the price.
I should have not sold my GN1, but I am glad that I canceled my order for GN2 a week ago.
My Pa5x will now do all the work.

I myself also had high hopes for the Genos2, its not a bad instrument by any means, however, I will be sticking with my Pa5x, Event and Genos1.

If anything, I may look to get a 76 Pa5x as mine is only a 61 and I made a mistake in that, I should have got a 76, was waiting to see what Genos2 was like first.
