Hi guys,
I'm posting this on behalf of my Dad who is 85 and who just purchased a Yamaha psr sx700. He is having trouble accessing the songs / styles he has saved on a USB, i'm living in Spain right now so its difficult for me to give much insight into this. I Had a look at the manual online and it mentions having to format the USB? Not sure if this is required as the songs and styles were previously accessible on the old Yamaha keyboard.

Anyway, im hoping that someone with a better insight than me can provide some advice on how to access the material on the USB For the psr sx700.
You'd be helping me and my Dad out so much.

Thanks in advance
Mark

Hi Mark. I would suggest that your dad makes a copy of all his songs/styles that are on his USB drive to his computer and then try formatting the USB in the SX700 and copying the files back to the USB. Or, if he has a spare USB format it on the SX700 and then copy the files across. I have the SX700 and it has no problem loading songs/styles/registrations etc. from the USB.

It may be worth checking that if he is using material from an older model (Yamaha or otherwise) that these are in fact compatible with the SX700.

If your Dad wants to reach out to me directly I will be happy to help

Cheers

David
Now have a CVP 809 as my wife plays Piano but not Keyboard - I had to PX a Genos to buy it, Also have an SX700 - I did previously own a Tyros.

 Hi Mark
David has comprehensively answered your question, and the only thing I would add is to do yourself a favour and go and get a brand new USB stick.
I use SanDisk 16, 32, and 64 Gb ones on my SX-700 and never have any problem. Cheap, old sticks ain't worth the money. Treat him to some new ones.
Sometimes older USB sticks are bluntly just not up to it anymore.
With a brand new modern stick, you'll have no problems. Apart from anything else, new ones will work so much faster.
And YES, DO format the stick on the instrument, as David suggests, then add whatever you want from the pc.
Bear in mind that folders have size limitations so if you need to split up any big folders.... Say from one folder with A to Z files you may need to have 2 folders say A to M and N to Z.
If any folders are too big or faulty, the SX will tell you so anyway. It's a clever keyboard.
Congratulations to your Dad on buying what I personally believe to be the best arranger on the market for both home and light Performer use. He's made a great choice.

Are those songs/styles in root directory of USB stick?
Did your dad choose USB1 when selecting songs/styles?

Bill

Hi Mark

Just a shot in the dark —  since the SX700 is different from the previous keyboards he might have used, I wonder if he maybe struggling with the touch screen interface rather than the button he will be used to.

You have to be in the correct mode to see style etc on the keyboard. You will only see Styles and "folders" when you are in Style mode. Registrations will not show up until you go into Reg Mode.  You need to tap the relevant part of the screen to make a selection.

Yes I was thinking the same. To see his songs he must first press the Song Player button on the top left of his keyboard and then he must select his USB stick to use his files. He must do the same with styles by pressing the style button.

Hi guys,
Thanks so much for all the replies. In regards to formatting, its not something he would be able to do, given his age, i could do it for him, but as i say i'm in Spain and wont be back until December.

He used this in a previous yamaha model so i think its more of an issue of learning how to access whats on the USB. @bill as you say its likely he's struggling with the interface.

With that in mind, and just so i'm clear, could you give me a breakdown of exactly what he needs to do in order to access the styles  / songs he has on the usb?

Once again, many thanks for all your input, its greatly appreciated. He bought the keyboard just a few weeks and is yet to get the good out of it yet.

Hi Mark.
Formatting a new USB on the SX700.

Put the new stick in the USB port on the back of the keyboard.
Press the MENU button TWICE  it's above the main control wheel.
Press the UTILITY button on the screen.
Press the STORAGE button on the screen
You'll now see 2 lines of information
It's the LOWER LINE called USB 1 that you want.

So now Press on that that line (  USB1) on the screen.Once you do that, the FORMAT button will appear at the bottom right of the screen.
Press it, and then you'll get the usual warning about all data being deleted, but as it's a brand new stick, obviously that's not relevant.
So press YES to format the drive.

That's it. It's a 2 minute job. If your Dad is struggling then I'm happy to help him through it.

If your Dad can do this, then he's home and dry.

Keith
As before if I can help with this in the UK then PM me.
