SX900 renaming registrations question

I know that moving around User area voices and styles into different User folders will break the links to the registrations that used them. I know now to never move or rename my User files.

What about renaming a registration bank file? Will that create any link breaks?

Bill

Moving your registration files will only effect / break the link for any Playlists you have.

Bill,

I assume same is true for renaming a registration bank?

Not Exactly True
I renamed my registrations from ALL CAPS on a PC using a rename program called spacetornado Renamer
Example: ALL OF ME.reg was changed to All Of Me.reg   Nothing else was changed, did not move anything, simply changed the name.
Loaded in the SX-900 the registration to style link worked as before renaming. No broken links Renaming a registration will not break a link to the style

Side Note if using Mobile Sheets:
Since the registration name has changed, that breaks the link in Mobile Sheets because Mobile sheets is looking for the original ALL CAPS link.
Therefore, if using Mobile Sheets  the solution is to relink the renamed registration, which can be a time consuming pain.

Larry,

I don't use Mobile Sheets so I probably won't worry about that exception.

I did rename all my Registrations and so far the links seem intact. I am happy there is no problem with this.

On the Styles and Voices side of things, link breaks from moving around and renaming User files/folders was a big annoyance for me, especially for a beginner trying to set up a file management sytem in the User memory. There is no warning or mention about the issue in the File Mangement section of the manual. Sure it may be common sense in the computer world that moving around files break links, but some may not expect it to happen with the SX OS. When it happened to me early on I found it nearly impossible to re-link any of the registrations, as I could not remember what User files I had linked.

So unless I am viewing this totally wrong, one should plan their appropriate  User file/folder system from the very beginning and don't change it later. This is key for my workflow, as I need my files super organized. Not sure about anyone else.

Yea that's my way too. Registration links are easily broken, so it's probably best to proceed with caution.
Kind of like a computer registry

Sorry, but it's exactly true. Your example has nothing to do with playlists, which was the question.

If you rename a registration, links to any files (such as a user style) will still work.

But a playlist that referred to that registration won't work.

Fred,

Just to clarify, I didn't ask about Playlists in the initial question. Bill mentioned Playlists.

I think what Larry meant by "not totally true" is that renaming registrations doesn't work with Mobile Sheets in his experience. But I think we are all on the same page that registrations can be renamed and does not affect the links to User Styles and User Voices, but that it won't work with Playlists.
