Is the DKV Concert Grand a hidden piano voice?

I was running through several T5 ballad styles. When I loaded the "OrchestralBallad" style from the "Swing & Jazz" section, an new piano voice appeared.

It is called "DKV Concert Grand" and I was wondering why this voice was not appearing in the Piano voice section with the other PSR-S950 voices. This piano voice sounds really rich and full.

Is this piano voice hidden on all the Yamaha keyboards?

DrakeM

I am not sure but I think it is the Yamaha "Disklavier Concert Grand" voice hidden on my PSR-S950 keyboard.

Hi Drake,

You are probably talking about the Piano Voice called with OTS1 of the mentioned T5 Preset Style "OrchestralBallad" for the Right3 part, right?

Which Voice Number is shown for this Voice in the Voice Selection display of the S950? (If you don't see Voice Numbers there, please go to "Function > Utility > Config2" and set "Display Voice Number" to "ON".)

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

The voice is the CFX Concert Grand (Live!) piano voice which comes with the CVP-809 keyboard. #108-000-001

It must have been a Clavinova CVP-809 style I download that shows the name DKV Concert Grand (Live) in the OTS1 slot of the style.

The Clavinova line is where Yamaha keeps their best sounding piano voices.

And it is hidden on my PSR- S950 keyboard, how cool is that?

hi Drake,
This is one of so called "Style Voices". You can only access these in style creator (the same way as you select GM&XG/GM2 voices) -at least that's the case on my SX700.
I have checked that particular voice and it's the same voice as Concert Grand in regular preset piano's list. That is, Style Voices are normal preset voices with different settings (so they better match particular style).

That's odd as the S950 does not have a Piano "Style Voices" folder. This voice is in a folder called "Piano" all by itself. There is no way to get to that folder via the keyboard itself.  I also checked the Manual's list of voices and it is not listed there on any of the PSR, Tyros or Genos keyboards, either by NAME or CODE NUMBER.

The S950 keyboard only has 3 folders in the "Style Voices" section; Strings, Guitar&Bass and Brass.

Oh, well.

Yes Drake, on SX700 that's also the only piano "Style voice". Other Style voices folders are various organ voices (no strings, guitar and brass). I guess Style voices content depends on built in preset styles, which again depends on keyboard model.
I assume, the reason why Style voices aren't listed in DataList, is because they're not real voices -only settings for preset voices. On the other hand, GM&XG/GM2 voices are actual voices, but still Yamaha decided not to list them in SX-series DataList.. maybe because they're not accessible directly.
Anyway, one would wish better documentation from Yamaha.

Bogdan
