How can I edit a waltz style so that it only plays beats 1 and 2?

Hi Alaln,

What do you mean by 'Muting'
1. Play beat 1 - beat 2 - beat 3 but not sounding (muted) - beat 1 - beat 2 - beat 3 (muted) - ...
2. Play beat 1 - beat 2 - beat 1 - beat 2 - ....

Merci.

Your example 1.

My arrangement for the accompaniment of the song uses a conventional beat 1, beat 2, beat 3 style, 4 bars long. However, to introduce some "drama" into two of the verses, I want beats 3, 6, 9,and 12 to be silent. If I can edit the style and save it under another name, I would switch it in by using it in a separate registration.

hi Alan,
That can be easy done in Style Creator. You didn't say which keyboard you have...

Select the style section you wish to change (Into, Main A, etc) and then choose Rec Channel. Here you select which channel you wish to change: Rhythm (drums), Bass, etc.. -to select the channel, press the icon so the name of channel becomes red.
Now you touch Step Edit icon (on top of the display). Here you select the note that you wish to mute and then turn volume of that note to 1 (is the lowest possible). After you're done, save the style as new style.
Of course you can also simply delete the note you wish to mute.. but if you make a mistake, the note is gone forever.. so, until you're not sure, it's safer if you just silence it.
I recommend reading Reference Manual

Hi Alan,

I think the solution that Bogdan gave could work.
If it is only for one section that is not a lot of work.
But if all section should be done I think you better off with a PC program like MixMaster or StyleMagicYA.
What keyboard are you using and what style would you like to change ?

Merci encore.

My arranger is a PSRs970. The style is called Clementine 125-lw.S069 from one of Joe's invaluable packs. I've put a copy here:

I am unable to follow your suggestion because my arranger is an s970, so doesn't have a touch screen. If I hold down REC CHANNEL and choose a channel other than the two RHYs to change. I am presented with the message:

You have to delete the data of the original style before recording.
Delete?

If I choose NO, then I can't proceed. If I choose YES then there's nothing left to edit.

I understand. This has nothing to do with touch screen. The thing is, you can not edit/change built in styles! To do that, you need to copy the style on USB, then copy to PC and  use a small software called "style unlocker" (is made by forum member Jorgenson and is available in PSR Tutorial site). After you unlock the style, you copy it back to keyboard and you will be able to edit it.

Hi Alan,

I just muted the 3th beat of each measure in sections Main A, Main B, Main C and Main D.
I don't know whether the changes is what you want. Give it a try.
For me it sounds bizar.

I've read the Reference Manual and I am none the wiser.

Editing Data for Each Channel
5 REMOVE Event
This function lets you remove specific events from the selected channel.

I have no doubt that you are correct when you advise, "I think you better off with a PC program like MixMaster or StyleMagicYA."
but unfortunately life is too short to begin to learn how a new piece of software operates. Sorry.

It is only possible to edit drum kits on Yamaha keyboards. All other track hane to be deleted and then you can record what you require.

Thank you for your contribution which explains everything.

I can't try your modified style at the moment. I'll report as soon as I can.

Merci beaucoup mon ami! Your modification of the style is perfect. I've just played the unmodified and the "stumbling" modified versions side by side to show the effect. There's a verse in the song in which Clementine stumbles and falls in to "the foaming brine" which my ukulele group will be playing. This will be parfait.

As Eileen has pointed out, I couldn't have achieved this modification of the style on my s970.
