MIDI time setting change

I have MIDI song created a time ago on Casio keyboard in 3/4 time. Also Anvil Studio application shows that the file is recorded in 3/4 time. When playing it on SX700, it shows 4/4. This alone wouldn't be a problem, because beat is always beat, but editing such song is problem. Instead of 52 3/4 bars there are 39 4/4 bars and to find particular note for editing is complicated in such case.
One question is: Why Yamaha keyboard sees another time setting in MIDI file than Casio or Anvil Studio?
For me more important question is: Is there any possibility to change the displayed time setting of existing MIDI song from 4/4 to 3/4 (or vice versa)?

I don't know why Yamaha doesn't see the measure as 3/4. You can easily change that in the free XGWorks program. Watch this video.

I find XGWorks hard to use (and find). Mixmaster will also easily change it for you. You can find the program in the utilities section of the website.

Hi Fred
XGWorks is easy to find and install on all win operating systems.

As with MixMaster, the measure in the song is reached with two clicks of the mouse.

I actually bought XGWorks before Yamaha abandoned it. I could never wrap my head around it, and joined Yamaha. I find Mixmaster much easier.

Hi Lacko,

It is important that the Time Signature event is at the very beginning of the MIDI file, i.e. at the first tick (displayed in MixMaster as "001:01:0000"). If it is further back in the file, it should be moved to the very beginning.

In addition, it could be that there are several Time Signature events in the file. In this case, all but the first one should be deleted.

Best regards,
Chris

● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Thanks Wim NL. I found it in SX700, too. Sy*** is after channel 16 in StepEdit.
