When I search for a style file by name in USB, many files are brought up in display but when touched a Message 'File not found or file name is inappropriate' is displayed
Request if someone could ps throw some light on this issue.

When the keyboard is turned on it starts indexing the files. This takes some time. T s therefore advsable that you wait a while before you start searching.

Hi Toril and Chax I've been dealing with this problem since I bought the SX900 four years ago.
A year later, I have had replaced me the sx900 for a problem (it turned out to be non-existent).
The search has always behaved in this way, even with the new keyboard, the search results include many files no longer present in the USB. Several times the members of the Forum have told me that indexing takes time (depends on the number of files stored), but I'm not sure if this is the solution, I put a usb with very few files and waited hours, the result is the same many files are displayed and many are not more present.
Factory reset on the first SX900 didn't fix the problem (I think it should have...). In my opinion the problem is that the indexing is stored on the USB stick and is read by the SX900 without ever being overwritten. Assuming that deleting a file does not delete the file (on USB) definitively and perhaps not even the indexing (some computer expert could clarify this doubt).
I'll try with a new USB as soon as I can, in alternatively I could do a high level USB formatting on PC and store the files on it again.

I have the same problem with indexing.  If you are using a Mac to copy files to your USB drives, it may be contributing this error.  Mac's store certain metadata in a "shadow" file with the same name but beginning with "._".  The Yamaha keyboard Operating System doesn't know how to deal with the ._ files, so gives you an error.

Let me know if you are using a Mac.  I may be able to help.

Hi Craig

Just for info you can use a piece of Software on the Mac called "Blue Harvest", it will automatically clean any USB Stick of all the Mac Metadata. It is reasonably cheap and work in the background so that you never need to worry about such problems.
It is available on the Mac App Store.

I can only say that's it's brilliant.

Hi Guys, today I tried a new USB from PC I archived a single folder with 22 subfolders for a total of about 800 styles. After a couple of hours a small warning appeared on the display of the sx900: the index was completed 10 minutes ago". I did a search for the word "house" three pages of results many references are files not stored on the new USB ( at the bottom the path, link, where the file was (in the old USB) is indicated. That file, or the folder where it was located, has been deleted, renamed or moved, but continues to be part of the search results. I still think it's a bug in the O.S. the problem occurs on the "SX" series, which rely on the O.S. designed for Genos and adapted to the "little sisters".  Genos probably don't have this problem. Hi Pietro,

Have you already installed the current firmware V1.11 on your SX900?

If not, I recommend doing so. This may also improve the behavior regarding the Search index (although this is not explicitly mentioned in the version history):

Hi Chris, yes the update is installed. do you remember the problem that some "SX" would freeze on the logo and not start? cause related to the use of favorites? The problem was solved by Yamaha with the 1.05 firmware update. I still think the O.S. was born for Genos and was adopted for the SX series. The "suit is good" but it's not "tailored" and some problems there were.
There is another post (currently) which complains about a number of results beyond the display capacity, is natural if there are thousands of styles on the USB, but it is not clear why the search cannot be targeted to single folders. If I have 10 folders and each folder 20 subfolders, and each subfolder another 15 (from A to Z for example) why is not the search limited only to folder Z if I go looking there? instead of giving me the results of everything: presets, expansion packs, users and USBs? it is basically illogical.
If you have to look for a generic "16beat" style, that's a problem. I no longer use the search function and go to memory filing files with my own personal criteria, so I know where to look.
The problem remains of deleted files that continue to be displayed on paths that no longer exist. The question is does this also happen to Genos owners?
If the answer is no then the problem lies in the "SX" series O.S./firmware. Indexing seems to be malfunctioning (in my case on the "SX900"), I will survive this lol. But it's good to know for those like Chax who wonder about this. Pietro

I have been using the Unix command line utility dot_clean to remove all the ._ files.  I just purchased Blue Harvest, and ran it.  Much easier, and more complete.  Thanks!!!

Yes, being able to start the search from a certain folder downwards would be a useful enhancement.
