Hello. About a year I had lots of questions on Registration Banks and Registration Memory. While I think I had understood what I needed, It seems that perhaps I may have forgotten something important.
I am trying to create a new Registration Bank(call it ATEST) and would like to populate my Registration Memory(1-8) with 8 other Banks.  I can't seem to find a way to do this.  I hope I have explained myself correctly.  I have an SX700.

This was my post on this Registration subject then: https://www.psrtutorial.com/forum/index.php/topic,61053.msg469150.html#msg469150

Also is there a max number of Banks that I can have in a folder?

    Regards!             dom

There is no such thing as a bank within a registration button.

All banks stand on their own.

The number of files you gave in a folder depress on your keyboard. On a Genos it's 2500. Regardless, we don't recommend more than 200 files in a folder because of the time the keyboard takes to search the folder.

Fred

Hi Fred. That is good to know. So for me to accomplish kind of what I want then it seems that the only thing I can do is just select different styles, pads, ots, for each memory registration and create the new Bank that way.

As for the 200 max Banks in a folder, understanding that the keyboard can take longer to read the files(BANKS) in the folder, if I were to put up with that, can I exceed the 200 or is there a possibility that things would get corrupted and the keyboard will not be able to load them correctly?

While on this role, I have always been told and from experienced issues that when I move rgt and Style folders around on my USB as the rgits must know of the root path to find it's components to piece things together I can not play the registration bank. So how is it then that one can provide a Rgt  only and I can load it and it works ok on the keyboard finding workable sytles and OTS(voices).

   Regards dom.

1. You can copy a registration button from one bank to another as follows:
-- Load the source bank.
-- Load the button you want to copy
-- Load the target bank; DON'T press any of its buttons.
-- Press Memory>Target button
-- Save the target bank.

Is that what you want to do?

You can have as many files as you want in a folder, up to the keyboard's max. It won't corrupt anything; it's just that the more files you have the slower the find is.

A registration will always be able to find Preset styles, because it knows where they are. For user styles, the registration will look where you told it to look. If you move the style without telling the registration, that's when it won't work.

You can move a registration anywhere, and it will still work.

Fred

Not quite; if you exceed the maximum number of displayable items, the entire folder becomes inaccessible to the keyboard. You won't be able to view the contents of the folder at all -- on the keyboard. You could then take it to a PC, and make subfolders to rectify the problem. (again, you shouldn't exceed 255 sub folders either or the same problem will arise).

You just need to create proper directory trees. E.G. Songs -> Song's by title (or artist, or category, whatever) -> Alphabeticaly each letter gets its own folder, and if you end up with more than 255 files in A, for example, the you'll need to create 2 subfolders to "A", labelled "AA-Am", "An-AZ", and if those get too full, break it down further, like "AA - Ag", "Ah - Am", "An -As", "At -Az" for example.

yes it requires constantly re-organizing as your collections of styles, songs, registrations etc grow. But this will be familiar ground to pc/mac folks who've had to organize sub folders to find any of their files on their computer.
