Style extensions

A lot of styles that are available for download have an extension, like T552. I assume this refers to the original keyboard. Is this correct and if so, is there a referencelist?

Your T552 specifies the icon to be displayed with the style.

The actual style extension is something like .sty, .prs, etc.

Thanks Fred.
Is there a referencelist for the icons?

Dear Bogdan,

the pdf of your link is very interesting.

How can I download the so many icons I see there? They seem to be much more than what is available on Genos.

Thank you

Hi Angelo,

These icons are all already available in Genos, but unfortunately you cannot select all of them directly on Genos.

To select one of the "hidden" icons for a file (e.g. Registration Bank file), you have to use a Computer: Copy/save the file in question on a USB stick. You then connect the stick to the computer and change the "icon ID" there to the desired value. When the stick is connected to the Genos again, you will see the new icon.

Example:
Original registration bank file with icon ID ".S917":
Test.S917.RGT

To get an "accordion" icon, change icon ID to ".S069":
Test.S069.RGT

Incidentally, which icon a keyboard file has on the COMPUTER depends on which program is linked to the corresponding file type there, i.e. which program opens when you double-click on the file. This is irrelevant for the change of the icon ID described here.

Warning: Since the icon ID is part of the file name, the icon ID of files (e.g. style files) that are linked in registrations must not be changed afterwards (not even directly on the keyboard!). Otherwise the registrations would no longer work because they can no longer find the relevant files.

P.S.
Windows does not display all file extensions by default (e.g. ".exe" is not displayed). In order to ensure that ALL file extensions are displayed, the display of "file name extensions" should be activated in Windows Explorer. For Windows 10, please see the following picture:

With older Windows versions, you have to REMOVE the checkmark for "Hide extensions for known file types" in Windows Explorer under "Folder Options > View":

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Angelo,
I see Chris explained everything perfectly -that's what he does  :)
About pdf file.. you don't download each icon separately: you download whole pdf file, which you can use for reference (to do things that Chris explained).

Bogdan and Chris,

thank you so much for your useful contributions. I'll follow your suggestions.

I wonder if:
-would be somehow possible to utilize OTHER icons, let's say "custom" icons, realized from a standard jpeg file.
-there are third party icons library that can be used in Genos

Grazie e ciao

Angelo,
As far I know, it is not possible to use external custom icons. The thing is, icon is not saved inside style file. By giving a "number" into file name (i.e. "Ballad.S534.sty"), you only tell your keyboard which built-in icon should be shown for this style.

Hi Angelo,

As already mentioned by Bogdan, it is unfortunately not possible to add your own user defined icons. The icons are included in the keyboard's firmware.

Since the Genos firmware (in contrast to the other models) is in a non-protected (Linux) archive format (".PRG" Genos firmware update files can be opened with "7-zip", for example), it would theoretically be possible to make changes there. But that would require the expertise of a Yamaha programmer, especially to ensure that the edited firmware file still works properly...

Best regards,
Chris

You can also use the midiplayer of Michael Bedesem (https://psrtutorial.com/MB/midiplayer.html):
"Icons : Displays all available icons and allows replacement for midis, styles, voices and multipads."

You can for instance open a style file, click on the "Icons" button, choose an icon, click on "OK" and then save your file (filename will then automatically include the corresponding extra "extension".
