How do I find the voice used for "Auto FILL IN"

I have a forum style %8BRAT3_E and can't find what voice is used in the auto fill in when selecting style control B & D.  There is like a 5 beat tape(knocking if you will), could be easier to detect if you hit the BREAK button as well.   I went into CHANNEL and style but have no idea how to find that voice.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.    Regards!   dom

Hi Dom,

You can find out the Voices used in the individual sections of a Style relatively easily with the PC (Windows) program "MixMaster": Just load the Style in MixMaster, then select your keyboard model at the top right and click on the "Voices View" button. The fill-in sections are called "Fill in AA", "Fill in BB", "Fill in CC", "Fill In DD". The fill-in AA belongs to Main A, fill-in BB belongs to Main B, and so on.

To be complete, the Break section is called "Fill in BA" in the Style file (not something like "Break"!). By the way, alternatively you can also see/check the individual Style sections in MixMaster in "List View".

If you cannot do what is described yourself, it is best to upload the relevant Style to a file sharing service (e.g. box.com) and post the download link here. Then we can find out the Voices used for you. :)

Best regards,
Chris

Just bring up the style window in mixer and play your fill. You will see what voice it uses with the voice icons that show there.

Hello Eileen and Chris.
Eileen I have tried your approach and unless I am doing something wrong, I have detected AnalogKit in the Rhythm1 of the style in the mixer.  So I then went to the Part select and brought that voice up in Right1. They are not the same so something else must be happening that I can not understand or detect. I had spent some time playing around with that and channels but as mentioned and why this post, did not get anywhere.
Chris I will go and find that program next and download it on my Windows 10 computer and follow you instructions.  Will keep you posted.
Many thanks for you support as always.  Best Regards!     dom

I have just noticed that you mentioned this as being an Audio style so you will not be able to use the Audio Drum track to alter things.

Hello Eileen. not sure how this could be an audio style or how to tell the difference between and audio style and say a regular keyboard style.  To help avoid any confusion I have pasted a link to the style if this helps.
Sorry if I am making more work on getting to root cause than I should.

Perhaps you may be able to identify this in a jiffy?

Chris, I downloaded MixMaster and can't seem to find where to add my instrument. Here is screen print to help show what I see.  I can not actually paste it here but here is a link to  it.

Hi Dom,

the SX700 cannot play Audio Styles. So your Style must be a normal MIDI Style.

Just click on "No Instrument" in the top menu line of the main window of MixMaster and set to PSR-SX700 there.

Hello Chris.  When I click on the No Instrument it simply provides a popup with a green check mark and no place for me to enter any instrument.  I think I need to give up on this(too bad) as this software is intended for someone with more knowledge on these instruments and related programs/software.  The values I see in the voices mean nothing to me without a table to relate to a voice(name) to that specific value.

So, thanks for all your help. I don't normally give up this easily but since I do not have the program source code to allow me to see all the "calls" in the program I am running blind.  I am sure in time I will find some way to figure this out. I have done it with a few other things with great pain but in the end I did get my result and learned a lot in the process.

  All the best!.  dom

You need to go into the Style Creator program. It is a cymbal sound that you are hearing found in the RHY2 slot of the style parts.

While you are in the Style Creator program, you need to go over to the EDIT tab.  And then move down the list you see a NOTE  "C#2" and that is what you want to change to a different sound or you can delete it.

I will see if I can find you a better sound to sub for that C#2 sound and post the style in this thread.

Here is a link to a corrected version of the style:

https://app.box.com/s/t3ti73k48jrqi152904jkmbx8rxw8shl

I changed all the C#2 notes in all the style parts to a Eb2 notes and because it is a much softer cymbal sound I raised the volume up a bit so it can be heard.

Fred/Drake, the style that I am working with is posted above

After my last post stating that I gave up on the MixMaster program I decided to pursue what I think I found  in Rhythm1 which was the AnalogKit. If I disable the Rhythm1 channel then the sound disappears. Played around and I did find the sound which was generated in the auto-fill by selecting it in Part Select and depressing the Eb4 key on the keyboard. I think I was heading on the right path to try and identify the voice.

Then decided to go back and check out the post and saw your post Drake. I then went into Style Creator as stated looking for the sound in there but could not find that Eb4.

Downloaded your newly updated style Drake and put in the keyboard then went into file creator looking for the Eb2 and found it. However the fill-in still plays 5 repeated Eb4 sounds(suspect cord looper was used to create that) but I did find an Eb2 in the edit list.  Somehow it looks like I am not seeing what you are seeing with the C#2 in the original being changed. I do notice in the Style creator that I can edit different channels but on the top line I always see a "RED" dot with Rhythm2 showing regardless of what target channel I select, so no sure if that plays a role in my view? Will leave that one for another day while I exploit Utube on this subject.

I will now go educate myself on Style creator so I can stop my head from spinning with all this. Maybe I am trying to bite off more than I can chew.

I appreciate everyone's support and patience.  Thank you.

Hi Dom,

I forgot that after a new installation of MixMaster you have to add at least one instrument via the "Instrument Manager". Please proceed as follows:

In MixMaster, click on the "Options" menu item and then on "Open Instrument Manager". Then highlight the entry "PSR-SX700 + GM2-XG" and click on "Add Instrument" to add the instrument to the list on the right.

I recommend adding all the other available models in this way as well (see also the attached picture). Then click Ok and Exit to close the Instrument Manager.

Now click on "No Instrument" to select the SX700 (or on the currently selected instrument to select a different one.

By the way, if in "Voice View" no name is displayed for certain Voices, but only a number, I recommend selecting either Genos, SX900 or Tyros5 as a test. You can usually find out the name of the Voice in question this way.

Best regards,
Chris

Hello Chris.  This was easy once the instrument was identified.  I did see that the voice was in fact the AnalogKit  for SFF2 showing 9/RHY2  and 11/RHY1.  So this is great showing me Channels 9 & 11 with the voice. Would be nice if it identified the 11/RHY1 Eb4 key being used in the autofill but no problem there. I like how I can change the channel voices insert/delete so a good tool to play with.

Appreciate the ability to move forward with this software rather than to abandon it.  I am happy to know that using my crude method on the onset, I was able to identify at least the voice I was after and which channel & key so I can see my progression as  kind of somewhat understanding more of this keyboard at least for my use.

So a big thanks to everyone who took the time to assist me with this and helping me move to a new level of understanding how these arrangers work. Of course I have a long long way to go but every baby step for me gives me so much more functionality and appreciation for my keyboard.

                   Best Regards!                  dom
